➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Just wondering bc you all are very knowledgeable regarding chick hatching. How long has everyone kept chickens? I'm really loving all the info I'm learning following these active threads and it just had me wondering. I just got my first chickens last year and really didn't have any experience with them. I didnt grow up around chickens but I'd been wanting a backyard flock for years. I familiarized my myself with breeds and housing and am trying to learn the rest as I go. I started with 9 pullets and am constantly adding and subtracting from my flock until I get exactly what I want.
I've been raising chickens for a little over 5 years. I had zero experience going in and really wish I had found this site earlier. Everything was learn by doing and I made tons of mistakes. I got interested in hatching very early as I had a 8 month old hen go broody. After a couple of years of broody hatching, my husband got me an incubator for Christmas, and that has been a wonderful and fun learning experience.

I learn more each day from the amazing people on this site.

If your current feed works for you I see no reason to change it.
I do think it is better and easier to feed a layer type feed if you have only layers or close to being layers.
14 weeks is plenty old enough to feed a layer feed too.
A new baby...not so much.
Read page 25 of that book real quick.

I did know that. I ran out of layer feed right as chick was hatched and just switched everyone to flock raiser for now bc I didn't want to buy different feeds. I once used a "hearty hen" feed by nutrena that I thought was the best food I've ever used and now I can't find it anymore. My birds were never more productive than when on it.

He is going to mind when we move to the country and I have room to keep what ever I want though.

When is that happening? Living in the country is awesome.

I love hatching and wish I could do it more often. I remember reading on some hatching thread, that someone put an "I will hatch your eggs" CL ad, and basically only got a couple of responses saying they are interested if you can hatch them "girl" eggs, lol.

I wouldn't actually put an ad up, I am not that nuts.
Or am I?
