➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Finally caught up! Holy crap...I blink and i'm 100 posts behind!
I just finished chasing my EE rooster as he's trying to RAPE my sweet EE girl. It was terrible! I've never seen her so terrified! He was running after her like a damn flying demon. Of course, my husband stands there just staring at me LOSING MY EFFING MIND.
Poor girl. Is this normal? This is my first round of chickens so all I can think is, OH MY GOD HES TRYING TO KILL HER.
I picked her up and she buried her head in my arm. When I thought all had settled, I put her down and he went after her again, as she went screaming into the coop. I delivered her to her rapist. I feel awful.
How old are they? How many hens does he have? Where is she at on the pecking order?

They are 18 weeks exactly. I have 3 other hens the same age and 2 more that are a few weeks younger. I also have a sebright rooster who is 17 weeks who I thought was at the top of the pecking order. Then the EE hen (victim). The EE roo (rapist) was always super mellow and I don't know where he is in the chain... they all get along so well usually. The sebright gets a little pushy with them sometimes but nothing alarming, NOTHING like this.

I took this pic of my EE today to share. Not the masculine hen but one that was a yellow chick.

@Tesumph didnt you get the yellow EE chick? Well this is how mine turned out. She's from cackle though and like I said did have some faint chipmunk stripes.

Yep, that’s me. She’s ghostly white with no striping at all, she could pass for a leghorn chick if it wasn’t for the green legs and puffy cheeks.
The two EE chicks are by FAR the most skittish of the bunch. I would chalk it up to normal crazy chick behavior if the others weren’t so dang sweet.
I was all ready for the reveal that the sassy girl was Ben's twin sister or something...
I was seriously waiting for it to have a stalker twist, or the boy was actually dead and in her imagination the whole time or something... yeesh.
I’ve read way too many creepypastas.

I agree with you on the gator 100%. But I know I love wild caught gator. Farm raised is disgusting and fatty.

& @RUNuts is right about calamari here tho. I've been with people when they order it and I always wonder why. It's like hard chewy fried rubber. It's just terrible.
When I was in high school, we'd all get a few beers and go squid jigging down at the docks at night. Catch a whole mess of baby ink squirting squid. Take them home, clean them up and batter and shallow fry. Oh, boy. I still fantasize about that squid.

:lau Give her time. Her imagination is wild! I'm sure it's coming.

Are you a little beach bum? That sounds like a blast! I am now adding squid jigging to my bucket list! Where and how do I do this? Were the squid hard and rubbery? That is literally the only way I've ever tasted them. I thought it was normal until I read Nuts post about it being Louisiana calamari.

@Tesumph maybe your EE will be pure white. That will be very pretty. This is Winnie as a chick. I forgot about the pale spot she had on her head.

I have edited this three times! The struggle is so real!

I suppose I am a bit of a beach bum! I also used go dog fish (shark) fishing under the Narrows Bridge. My dad and nephew were out catching dog fish last weekend in the Hood canal. Good times. Gotta watch their nasty little spiked tails though!
Fresh young squid are so tender that they just about melt in your mouth. I'll be honest, I have never had such delicious squid as in those days. Incidentally, the dude who made the fry batter was from Louisiana!
Squid feed at night and are drawn to light so we usually used glow in the dark jigs and had a lantern or flashlight to draw them towards the docks. When they start hitting, you can usually get quiet a few pretty quick. You should see if there are any known spots near you! It's a great time!

Are there even squid in the gulf? Surely there are. Hmmmm....

ETA there are. Why i didn't know this I don't know and why I don't know anyone who squid jugs is an even bigger mystery but I'm going to try to make it happen.

It is probably the two roosters fighting over who is going to be top dog. The EE roo probably got fed up with not having a hen.
