It looks like MDF with a vinyl overlay that has been stained? Stripping the color is out of the question but you could paint it and do a glaze on top. I recommend Sherwin Williams brand but i'm waiting on a call back from our rep to make sure you can use it on this piece. I'll message you the info when he calls!

Yes.
I have ordered real eggs.
They will arrive next week.

I have some store bought refrigerated quail eggs in the bator for now (day 3)...just seeing if the will develop, you know a little experiment.
