Great book suggestions!
I love the old mysteries by Helen MacInnes and the BONES series. Also the books by Jean Auel. I have every one of the series by Kathleen O'Neal and W. Michael Gear on Pre-Columbian North America.
Yes! Jean Auel was awesome, although the last book was quite a disappointment. It essentially just recapped the previous books. I went and heard her speak once at my local library. Fascinating!

I have read a few of the "people " books. Although the topics are great, I found them kind of simplistic.

Really enjoyed Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth series. Historical fiction is my favourite genre. If you can find any of the books, Pauline Gedge is great for ancient Egyptian (waaay before Cleopatra). Colleen McCullough has an amazing series on Rome. The 1st one is called First Man in Rome.

The books are far far better. The TV show is a very loose adaptation. The first book is called Deja Dead. Kathy Reichs is the author.
I remember reading about her when Bones first aired.

Fascinating woman (kathy Reichs). She's a forensic anthropologist/professor who splits her time between UNC and Montreal (working for the province of Quebec). Somehow she manages to find time to write the books. Tempe Brennan also goes between UNC and Quebec. Don't know why the TV show was set in DC.
