Is the hay in your coop or just run? I always start with pine needles bc they don't house mold the way does. But I think if the hay is in your open run part with plenty of ventilation and sunlight you may be ok. I agree adding decaying debris would be good. I started my pin needles off with coop n compost. I had s great experience but it was just mine. So that's not that credible as it was only one year.
Just the run, but the run is huge lol. Unfortunately Houston is always very muggy so I worry about it not drying out. I dunno. We’ll see.
I have no idea how I’m going to fill that big of an area with leaf litter.

A little here a little there. It will come together....it takes time.
