The only time I've been to Louisiana was about a year or two after Katrina. I was delivering a UPS truck, as the fleet in NOLA was destroyed by salt water... anyhow, I was furious at how little the government had done to help. 2 years later and barely anyone was back living there. There were acres of FEMA trailers that people weren't allowed to use, just sitting there.

Maybe it's the Canadian in me, but I was pissed...

Ahem well, since you asked, I am a “zooarchaeologist.” I study animal bones found at archaeological sites. And I use the information I gather to understand past environments, people’s diet, hunting methods, religious practices etc. etc. Or at least I try to. I am still in school and learning new things all the time

Anthropologists study people. The field of anthropology is made up of four sub-fields: ethnography, linguistics, biological/evolutionary anthropology, and archaeology. Linguist study language, bio/ev anthro focuses on human biology and evolution, ethnologists study the cultures of living people, and archaeologists study ancient “material culture” ie people’s stuff. Bones are a type of stuff. Actually bones are the coolest type of stuff Note that none of these fields include dinosaurs

Work lab on the left. The back table is where my colleagues analyze human bone. My table is the messy one
Right picture is the lab at school. The little stuff on trays is what I am analyzing. Everything else is comparative examples of different animals found in New Mexico.

I am so jealous! I was always so torn on what to study! It was between history, archaeology, or interior architecture and design.
I picked the wrong one!!

My husband volunteered to help transport supplies or provide temporary housing (he had a very large boat at the time) when he lived in San Diego... he was gobsmacked when he was turned down. There was so much need. He says he should have just done it himself but he was so angry that it blinded him from seeing his other options.
