➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Of course, I hope I did him some justice but I still have a lot to learn!
He’s a beautiful roo. :hugs :love
You did amazing! He’s beautiful on the outside, and does well with his hens sometimes but I swear this boy has a screw loose. :gig Anyone wearing a hat has to watch their back, we don’t know why he does that.

The ducklings are trying to eat the pee pads that I have down! And they also try to eat the pine shavings underneath! :barnie OMGOSH! They like toddlers that put everything in their mouths! Plz tell me they outgrow this phase?!? Are the pine shavings going to hurt them? Can't they choke? UGH! I was in there trying to clear out the old pee pads and put new ones down and freaked out one of the Pekin and it ran toward its water, AND TRIED GOING THRU THE JUG! And of course, got stuck. Now picture this. I have the handle of the milk jug facing the wall. And I have a hole cut out on each of the sides facing the front. The dumb duck went thru one hole all the way to part way out the other hole. :eek:If the poor thing wasn't panicking so bad and causing me to freak out because of it, I wish I could've gotten a picture of it. But my momma instincts kicked in and I had to rescue it right away. Had to try and wedge the one leg that was stuck part way in back out and then its wing and head thru both holes. And then the best part where I had to cuddle it telling her it'll be ok. :hit These ducklings are gonna drive me crazy! But I still love em! :love

ps,
Should I forego the pee pads now and just stick to pine shavings? It's just that the pee pads are so much easier to just roll up and get rid of.
It's only been 2 weeks ya'll! :th
I’ve also never used pee pads.. or had ducks haha. Sounds like a pain to keep up with as they get older.
As for them freaking out and getting stuck in the stupidest places, I think that’s just a baby bird thing. They seriously have no chill.

I suspect all of it is bs.
Okay, I guess I have to chime in, We have blocked off the coop part that is seperated from the roosting area and placed rat traps in the nesting boxes before (and it worked )

ETA: for rats, not a larger animal digging into the coop, and only after everyone went to bed.

You can go to shavings. I line the bottom of the tote with a piece of an old t-shirt. I re-cycle everything. :lau Top that with your layer of pine shavings. Every two days or when a water accident happens simply roll up remove, dump shavings in a tub or bucket for the compost. Like a soiled diaper, put the t-shirt in a bucket of bleach water. Wipe out the tub with paper towel (also compostable), lay in a clean piece of t-shirt and shavings.....maybe all of 5 minutes.

We use old feed bags to line ours :goodpost:
