➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

It’s been raining all day long. My tomato plants are drowning and it’s starting to become a lake in our yard.

This might work but I'm afraid I will go through the bag way too quick.
Maybe for the first week I can try this. I'm leaning towards hay once they get a little bigger because I can get it cheaper and I will probably be changing it at least every other day.

I don't like poop.

I hate this because I figured out it's time to get new steel toe shoes when my feet get wet from the bottom up! :(Also the crickets are headed to higher ground which means hundreds of crickets on the shop floor, including the ladies bathroom.:sick
Catch them!!!

Do you get the water proof boots? Mex likes those kind.

Catch them!!!
I was actually tempted, I was trying to figure out how to bring some home, but then I was too worried about the oils and coolants that might be on them. Can you wash crickets? I think that's heading too far into crazy chicken lady territory even for me!

Nope, I get some short steel toes from academy which set me back about $20.

Sure you can wash them.

Met a guy named Stormy Weathers. I asked if he was kidding me. He said nope ask my daughters Sunny or Windy.

Heard the one about a new mother liking what the hospital named her daughter. Female. Rhymes with tamale.

Then there is Shi'Thead.
Her name was Heddie when she graduated from high school. Poor mom could not read or write and a relative suggested the name....it sounds pretty until you see it in print. In second grade the family moved to a new school. The mom was horrified when the school counselor politely explained about "other children might tease the child about her name". That is when the name Heddie was suggested.

Thru my years of teaching and working in diverse school districts and my husband's career in the police department, we have accumulated an unusual list of names.

I think the chipmunk EE is a boy. He looks just like my boy did. Your barred rock is a pullet. If it makes you feel any better, I got 3 pullets and 3 cockerels with my chicks and 4 of them were straight run so the odds were already against me.

I have an order in for Columbian Wyandotte chicks from a hatchery this fall. I asked for straight run...hoping to get some nice darker colored cockerels to possibly use in the breed pen. My hatch rate this year has been 85% pullets. My cocks are getting older quickly.

Exactly. Everyone keeps repeating the same thing and no one ever updates to prove them wrong so it’s just accepted as fact. There’s one or two trusted posters I specifically look for, and a large handful that post on every thread that I just skim past at this point. Even newbies start thinking they know their crap because they start posting and no one ever stops to question their experience, lol.

Like I said, I’ve been lurking that forum for a while now and it pisses me off to no end how many people say “pullet.” “cockerel.” and then leave without a trace of explanation.

Well I say hey, I’m documenting my little weirdos and I’m updating the hell out of that thread, so there.
End rant.
I could not agree more! Frustrating when a "newby" responds to a question with his/her "new found knowledge" and reprimands a wise answer from a long time poultry breeder.
Someone suggested a while back in one of the breed threads that we should include in our bio/avatars the number of years we have had chickens.
Even my years of experience, I am learning all the time.

Omg the feet look huge!
And the quail quickly grow into those feet.

Anymore eggs getting close?
Mollie's ducklings should hatch tomorrow. :fl
Four of the broodie hen's should hatch in the next week and two others in two weeks.

Agree, I rarely post on these, at least I am smart enough to know what I don't know and give an opinion on something I don't know about. But I do love learning from the people who do really know what they are talking about.
Me too.
