Eggs. Hmmm. So, yeah. Been exciting here this weekend.

7 eggs under the broody, who I thought was the same broody as earlier (smaller leghorn). So I was amazed that she stuck to the nest so well. Turns out, this is another leghorn. I confirmed this because floppy broody is trying to sit on the OTHER nest. The one with golf balls. So, she got evicted.

So, I thought I was going to candle with the kids this weekend, but it was hectic and didn't do it. But I did a lot of research. So I have some questions.

Oh, the EEs are growing and are now the size of the smaller leghorns. Interesting to see how the flock dynamics are changing. The EEs are getting more assertive and the leghorns aren't liking it. I miss the others. They were way friendlier than the flighty leghorns or EEs. Still working on making friends here.

It has been 10 or 15 days for the eggs. Been looking at the charts and worrying if I have enough lumens for the brown eggs. So, what does a floating blob mean? Do you call that an early quitter and pull it? Not really moving as much as floating. What do you do if they are clear? Clear means that there is not a blob? The one that are clear, what do you do with those? compost?

Watching Kiki's videos, the only movement you see is the shadows change? Pretty interesting. And the brown eggs are harder to see into. Amazing. Really amazing.

And since owning my chickens and the two new kittens my girls have recently acquired I've spent PLENTY of time looking at poop! But that is hilarious! So you were gave yourself this name! I'm dead! One of my sister's friends had her first patient die on her her first day of clinicals. She had just stepped in to say hi and fill out the chart, but forgot her pen at the desk. The patient had a heart attack.

That's rough. That probably made crap get real real quick!

Thanks Tes. I'm sure it's all part of the job but the shock just takes a while to wear off. We actually brought her back but she ended up coding again later that day and dying. I wasn't there to see that part and I'm glad.

Quailies are laying? how many do you have? I've never eaten quail or their eggs. Are they very mild in flavour?
The roo I lost was named Sebastien. It's the first French name that popped to mind somehow.

I haven't tasted them yet, I have one female and one male as of right now. I know that ratio of male to female is messed up but they were the only two that hatched so they are being kept separate until the new chicks are ready to go in with them in two weeks. I love that name for a rooster, I'll say it again, I'm sorry you lost him.

My last baby is dead.

I am a complete wreck now, I can't stop crying and can't even get up.

She died in my hand. Bobbed her neck, heard some bubbling. I realized too late that she was drowning or something (I was not feeding her but her crop was full). I couldn't clear her airway, couldn't get oxygen in her, couldn't do anything. I was helpless and watched her die.

I feel like scum right now.

Don't feel bad at all you did all you could and you tried hard to save them and it's not your fault at all. I'm so so so so sorry for your loss

Gave some eggs and some of FSIL raspberry jam? Jelly? To a family friend last week, just figured he wanted them to eat but then he asked if he could enter it in the fair so I said sure cause I figure why not. Well anyway, the eggs got first place! His dad said they give a few first places (so idk if there's maybe different categories?) But still!! Considering I wasn't even planning on entering or didn't realize there was such a thing, I'm pretty happy. Although I think my parents are more happy than I am, they're like ecstatic/freaking out lol but it is pretty cool. The fair goes until Sunday, started Friday, so I think I may go down to the fair and see the eggs or see if it says what category or whatever I got. But heck, if I knew he was going to enter them, I would have chosen even better ones! Although I did try to put the best in the carton. I always give the best ones to people when we give them away (rare, usually just to my brother or friends who really need them). But yeah. Also wouldn't have refrigerated them since now they're wasted but oh well. I'm just amazed that I managed to get first place for such a last minute thing lol
