➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I was saying I have a long PM with two people that both have Marek's in their flock from
when I went into the rabbit hole last time trying to learn about Marek's.
I will ask them now if I can add you to that convo.
Sounds good to me.
Guess I am officially a Marek's host. :( well, unless the necropsy says otherwise.

Yeah...

:hugs
Deep breath. Unless you have an unusually hot strain like Tes did, this is NOT a death sentence for your whole flock. Culling all of them is ineffective and unnecessary, and Marek’s rarely takes out the entire flock. So just take one step at a time. Start by trying by getting a necropsy the next time you have a death. Knowledge is power and sick birds are hard to diagnose without testing. Once you know for sure what you are dealing with THEN you can make plans. There are lots of good people on this site dealing with the same problem. They can help and advise.

. For now though, just do what you can to keep your sick girl warm, comfy, and full. :hugs
:clap

We didn’t have to test the younger ones since they are our hatched ones, and our others were 15 weeks (and we originally planned to test the week after) but the tester’s daughter was coming to visit then so she went ahead and did it a week early.

We have two definite boys, one is crowing and the other charged me today. I think our Brahma and lighter Langshan are pullets though!
Oh ok, that makes sense. Lucky you! What an exciting step.
Lol on the cockerels. I wish my suspects would crow so I can just stop guessing.

Did I mention he graduated last year? He should be able to handle suggestions better.
Typical teenage know-it-all? I say we sic kiki on him.
I’m sorry Cy. On the bright side, if this was a very hot strain of mareks I believe you would have seen many others with symptoms by now.

This is the side of animal breeding/showing that makes me nauseas.

It was so funny to hear! It’s a trilling squeak sound but man oh man he does it every morning. :gig I need to record it! I love that our New Hampshire still hasn’t crowed. We call him Baby Legs because he’s all legs and still acts like a baby.
