when we had parakeets the research i did pretty much concluded that flight cages are ideal for them. As small as they are there is usually enough room in an appropriately sized flight cage to allow for climbing too.

I agree, flight cages are the way to go.
I was just saying that parakeets also climb and would be potentially poisoned by toxic cage wiring as well. I wouldn’t risk it either way for something that sensitive and mouthy.
