I like the idea but with flood waters, marker comes off so easily, especially the belly area with the softer skin being exposed. Most dogs won’t readily allow people to see their bellies either. Chickens that won’t work on, and people always put it on horse hooves and that never makes sense to me. It comes off because of the muddy water, and being near horse hooves when they are nervous is a bad idea.

⬇️ Below ⬇️ is what I always reply with:

Cattle tags braided into the manes and tails for horses. Spray paint your number on them.

Dogs...you just have to take with you. There is not any of effective way to protect them. Chickens also. Dog kennels work easily to just load them into and take. If you can’t take all of them, take the strongest and best layers.

The best protection is, and always will be, taking them with you. My family (we are so far inland that we won’t ever be truly affected by a hurricane) has already made a plan on how to take every animal with us. We have friends in Kansas who will put our horses on their land. Family who will house us and our dogs/cat/chickens if we need.

Make a plan ahead of time. Hurricanes aren’t like tornadoes that we see in Kansas, they take time to get there. There are plenty of places that are offering to take people in with all of their animals. Many people with help transport if you need. Don’t do this alone, in the scary times of these natural disasters, everyone is looking or giving help. It is out there, you just have to look.

I’ve tried 5 different times to get this to post, hopefully it works now.

I’ve decided that my birds are moulting and that might be why they’ve stopped laying? I’m still going to install a better light.
most likely the problem. 'Tis the season afterall. I've got 11 hens, 2 of which don't lay at all anymore, but am getting 3-4 eggs/day now. The chantecler girls are starting to look pretty rough.

I tried to convince Chef to let me dig a pond in our yard so we can do ducks. I'm still not quite sure what his expression meant. It was probably something like "oh God, it's time to have her committed, who will do the laundry?" :lau:gig:lau
I'm fighting for a moat around my coop to help keep it from flooding in the spring... if I have a moat, I have to have ducks right?

Our Brahma hens look like a fox got ahold of them. :th 6 hens, 1 egg a day and that probably going to stop soon as she’s starting to lose feathers too.

Out of my 6 pullets (22 weeks now), I have 3 laying consistently now (every day) and we got a 4th egg (double yoker) today. :celebrate So I have another one starting. :yesss: I feel fortunate that the eggs and shells have been so smooth and strong. They're small right now but that's just because they're just starting out. Well, except for the double yokers that I've gotten. I think each one has given me a double yoked egg when they first started laying. Today's double yoker is my 4th. They end up skipping a day and sure enough, a double the next day. I'm assuming this is normal since their systems are trying to work out all the kinks. My babies are growing up. :wee
I was sitting watching/looking at mine today. There's a few pullets that are now the same size or bigger than my hens. They're 19 weeks. Not bad for a slow growing heritage bird. Hopefully they'll lay soon, and not wait until spring.
