➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Their half brother, who is a Maran cross in the back is insanely developed! He’s basically his father in an 8 week old body. Already pulling on some young Australorp pullets, been crowing since 5 weeks old, calls their little flock over when he’s found a treat. It’s crazy. :gig Him and his brother (the more developed sibling Langshan) would fight all the time as 2-6 week olds but as of right now they’re established in their order. It’ll probably change by tomorrow :idunno

Oh wait whoops I thought that was him lol

It’s an EE. :) We only had one hatchling make it so we picked up two chicks to keep it company.

Cool. I asked because it kind of looks like mine and I keep wondering if indeed I grabbed an EE. :barnie I've never had one before. I sure hope it's a girl. :fl
When I got him/her last Sat. And Then today. Amazing how fast they grow.

They advertise on radio about property? I don't listen to radio much so maybe I miss it ha but it's an event right? Lots of properties? I think it said there was a sale Saturday.

And yeah me neither but I thought some of them were really gorgeous, especially the WV one. And sadly those aren't even that bad cause around here there's a lot for 1 and 2 million or more and really not many below like 400 or 500. A lot are like 600 or 700. For tiny lots too.[/QUOTE]

Yup. They do here. Not for your every day house hunters, like local realty. But for land plots by big developments like that they will. They always sound so cheap and I think to myself, man if only I had the ability/finances. But they're usually out in East TN, which is beautiful. I'm in Middle TN, so they're @ 3-4hr drive away and just isn't feasible for me.

Yesterday, earlier in the day, when I was having a "I don't know if I picked out an EE" moment, my hubby said, "well go up to TSC and pick out a couple more that you think are EE". We started out with 6... just got 4 more... So that's 10. There is a 4 purchase minimum... so I'd HAVE to grab 4. That's 14. The recently added and any newly added (if I actually went and got some) are straight runs so surely there are cockerels. So there's where subtraction would come in. We'd only keep 1 male.
*side note*
I am soooo hoping that my D'Uccle is a male. It was suggested that if s/he turns out to be a boy that I should name him Napoleon, which I did think would be funny, but I have decided he is an Elvis. When I see the feathers coming off his little feet, it just makes me think of like the jumpsuits that Elvis would where that flared out at the boots and were all fancy looking. And his feet look fancy to me. Idk. It's just the way my brain works.

Ok, back to contemplating more chickies....
My coop is only 4'x8' and 6' tall with 4 nest boxes and 2 roosting bars. So 32 sq ft yes? And the chicks are only in there to sleep and lay eggs. That's it. They're free range the rest of the time. But we haven't had winter yet so I don't know what, if any, issues we'll have with the chickens. I do have the little prefab coop that they used to be in that would be fine for 2-3 really comfortably, especially if the D'Uccle and Silkie have too much trouble with the big girls once the time comes to try to integrate them in to the flock. OMGOSH ya'll! I need help. I am super tempted. Chicken Math! :barnie:he:barnie I need more coffee....:caf Oh, and Good Morning everyone! :gig

You need help!

Going into lockdown later today on that batch of high humidity quail eggs. I’m not super hopeful. I literally have not candled once because I’m scared to look lol. The first week humidity bounced between 40-50%. Second week 30-40%. It’s down to about 30 for the last couple days.
I’ll aim for about 60% for lockdown I guess? Again not super hopeful, some are old, some are dirty, and some were laid right before everyone stopped laying so I’m really not sure how viable they were to start with
