I think Gator might be starting to have some problems with his jaw :(

I thought he just didn't like this food or was being picky (which could also be) but my dad was noticing when he gave him a can last night he was just licking at it and did eat it but he usually gulps it down in one or two bites. Also he went back for his kibble a day later (last night) after it was softer (had put olive oil and some immune boost supplement stuff on it. He's weird, hates fish, loves olive oil). Also I gave him a water buffalo horn a few days ago and he didn't even touch it and hasn't been interested in one of his old cow hooves my dad found either. I cam understand not wanting the old one but to not want to try a new thing I got him that he's never had before? Not even a couple chomps or licks? :(

We knew this might come and he eventually might start having jaw problems but when he first got it like a year ago he hasn't had any issues so I thought maybe he never would. Has had plenty of other issues (skin infections, repeated eye infections, etc.) but I thought maybe we were just lucky with the jaw thing.

I really hope it is not his jaw though and it's just a fluke so I will try other kibbles first but I know I am likely just being overly hopeful and optimistic and/or in denial. But the good news is it doesn't seem too bad yet and his mouth isn't locked shut yet (read some dogs can only open it a certain distance) so I think for now softening his food will work. But I do think we need to talk to the vet again. Maybe he could go back on steroids, read that can sometimes reverse it or prevent it from getting worse. But I'm not sure it's worth it or fair to him cause he also has a bad knee and hips and his head is so caved in and eyes so sunken in now :(

And he's also turning 7 in March.
Have you thought about putting him to sleep yet?
Is that an option?

I'm sorry to rehash the memory, but could you summarize what has been happening to your dog? I missed all of that. What breed is he?

It's okay, I don't mind, and idk if I ever fully shared it here, I think Kiki just knows from my posting on other threads.

Anyway, it all started last year when we took him in for a bee sting after it still wasn't healed after 2 weeks and eyes were green goopy, benedryl had helped a little but not really, and hot spots, anyway that's when the vet noticed his head looked sunken in and thought myositis. He didn't know much about it and neither did we. Gator was on steroids, eye drops, and antibiotics and I think we renewed the steroids after the 10 days cause he did so well on them. But then it's just been issue after issue. He's had one or two other eye infections, skin infection, etc. Most recently he lost some fur and was scratchy and his skin looked weird and vet said he had some bacteria on his skin so I think he was on antibiotics and steroids again. Well, the hair loss got worse and he lost more and more and eventually his undercoat turned brown/red and was coming out in patches and we were gonna take him back but I don't think we did or I think maybe just got a refill on the meds cause it wasn't healed yet. And eventually he lost all his undercoat and looked terrible, little rat tail and all, poor baby, BUT once he lost the brown patchy undercoat, he at least looked a tiny bit better because he was all black again and not patchy and half black half brown. And we gave him some bathes, first in an oatmeal one, then eventually after a while when his skin was less irritated some tar and sulfur bathes and they all seemed to help and he has been slowly growing his fur back. But now his eyes are green and goopy again and I noticed once or twice some green from his nose so he may have to go back to the vet again soon. He was always healthy as a horse but the myositis wreaks havoc on their immune system :(

He is half Black Lab and half Great Pyrenees.

And the knee thing is from an old i jury years ago that we thought healed but still occasionally limps but mostly only after long walks so we don't do those anymore. I don't think the long nails help.

Here is the original thread starting with the original sting, him finally going to the vet, vet's diagnose (including myositis, etc.)

I just feel bad cause in these pics there's clearly something wrong and I didn't notice till 2 weeks later when the vet did :(

I mean, we've thought about and know we probably will have to eventually but he still seems mostly happy and good quality of life so idk. Although lately he hasn't been wanting to go outside lime all day and practically has to be dragged or taken on a walk so he goes. So that's a little concerning too but he's still such a happy guy

My new garden shears will be used...I think.

I'm sorry :(

At least they had a good life with you unlike factory birds and they won't suffer or even know what's coming, it doesn't take long at all. :hugs

And just think how delicious they'll be :p

And how they will harass the poor girls if you don't
