I got my original flock of black australorps from a feed store. It wasn't TSC, it was a dif local one and I had to specifically request them for him to order. I'm not sure who he ordered thru. I ended up with 4 australorps and 2 jersey giants (or mixed breeds because the bottoms of their feet were yellow). I picked the BA breed because I read that they were both heat and cold hardy and lay lrg brown eggs. Out of those 6, 4 of them will lay medium eggs. 1 consistently gives me a lrg egg and 1 does both, depending on the day. I think I am still waiting on my Buff Orp to start laying. She has been curious about the next boxes here lately and her comb and face has gotten darker so I think she is getting close. Amber (NH Red) is giving me an egg a day. It's pullet size but she has had no issues at all. She started laying at 18 weeks and hasn't had any hiccups. I think she is going to be a really good layer, I just hope the eggs get larger. She's as big in body size as a lot of my older girls and they are 5 months older. When I get more chickens I am going to go with Cackle. We'll see how they work out.
