➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I got my original flock of black australorps from a feed store. It wasn't TSC, it was a dif local one and I had to specifically request them for him to order. I'm not sure who he ordered thru. I ended up with 4 australorps and 2 jersey giants (or mixed breeds because the bottoms of their feet were yellow). I picked the BA breed because I read that they were both heat and cold hardy and lay lrg brown eggs. Out of those 6, 4 of them will lay medium eggs. 1 consistently gives me a lrg egg and 1 does both, depending on the day. I think I am still waiting on my Buff Orp to start laying. She has been curious about the next boxes here lately and her comb and face has gotten darker so I think she is getting close. Amber (NH Red) is giving me an egg a day. It's pullet size but she has had no issues at all. She started laying at 18 weeks and hasn't had any hiccups. I think she is going to be a really good layer, I just hope the eggs get larger. She's as big in body size as a lot of my older girls and they are 5 months older. When I get more chickens I am going to go with Cackle. We'll see how they work out.

Thank you everyone for the feedback and insights! I’ll look at some of the hatcheries and the best production hens that they have produced. Then I’ll tally the amount of them and see which hatchery is best suited.

Egg size and laying ability is our most important concern as of right now so that seems more like the most feasible option. Then once we get our personal flock established we can move towards longevity and size.

The less shipping time the better.

I actually think that is the main reason I chose Ideal... because of the transit time.
We chose them with our other group because of the transit time and the fact that we didn’t have to order 25 chicks and pay an ungodly amount of shipping. This birds though they are just so small sized, and they’re at least 10 months old.

Can you weigh a few?

I can. Give me a minute to grab one. They are flighty.

I will say, our Legbars (not yet laying) are such sweethearts and I forgive them for their small size. :gig
No rush...I'm just curious.
