➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Our girls get so excited about the piles of leaves and mud puddles rather than grass. I will say, I love their happy chatters when they find a new something or other. Or when they are sent to bed at night and they see their bowl of food or if there is fresh water... :gig
The murmurs when there is a fresh layer of straw is my favorite. Cracks me up.

hello everyone :frow so good to be back. (not going to read 3000 pages) would love to know how and what everyone is doing. I have been busy with a new job and chickens as well as the rest of the normal family stuff. I had forgotten how much I missed all of you and the information and funny stories! I'll give you one of mine and wait to hear all of your's.
Last weekend DD's BF was at the house and it was night fall, we heard Chickens clucking loudly and flying all over when they should have been sleeping. The problem was a large possum in an unlocked cage . I ended up under the roosting area ( in the middle of the poop zone ) I had cornered my self with a live ( and angry ) possum, a 3 foot 2x4 and a 12 inch knife. Nothing gets to eat my chickens :smack It was not pretty, my right hand looks like I was in a fight with John L. Sullivan, but I won!!! :thBF kept yelling from the open window was I sure I didn't want help, but he had on new shoes and I didn't want him to ruin them, as I ended up covered in chicken poop, but my girls remain safe. :clap.
Waiting with baited breath to hear all of y'all's stories! :caf

Huh, that sounds kinda scary ha and wow really!? Didn’t know that! I thought from what I read if there are no hens they can get along? I know a lot of people get ducks as pets and just get a pair and I thought a lot of them got 2 drakes but maybe they got 2 hens or a drake and a hen instead? But I thought they were supposed to get along better with no hens and growing up together. BUT. That said, I also read ducks aren’t really happy unless you get them some females so then I kind of felt bad about just keeping males. Maybe he got attacked by wild ducks or a goose or
They will also mate your female chickens if they can get to them.... not a good scenario to create IMO

Not my experience.
I've had ducks and chickens for four years now.
Before that, I had geese and chickens for two years.
Earlier, I had turkeys and chickens.
All my birds free range together in and around the yards, garden, equipment and the barn and pens.
Only "rape attempt was by the goose gander...he tried to "do" a hen that got a drink out of a freerange water tub. She slipped away as two roosters charged the gander.

Edit to add...that gander made a great dinner after he kept attacking my dog Gracie and kept trying to pinch my inner thigh when I wore shorts.
