My mom keeps asking when I’m gonna move my chickens up here.
Hmm.

Yep, that about sums it up. Sorry for the hiatuses, I just get overwhelmed with it all.
But hubby is good, house is good, school is... well, whatever. School is just school. Been working through some mental health stuff, slowly figuring life out.

Theia is doing really well! We’ve had some training hiccups but she’s adjusted great to our lifestyle. She’s a goober.

Sorry to hear about your lettuce! The weather has been all over the place lately.
You really are quite the garden inspiration. I’ve been thinking about planting some fruit trees in our backyard this summer, just looking for motivation haha.

Since I'm on a roll, may as well keep going. Popped three call duck eggs under a broody yesterday. She's currently in the cat house on the deck. Gotta get the brooder set up and then I'll put her in there to finish up. Fingers crossed for a smooth hatch.
I'm going to leave any future eggs in the nest (behind a wheelbarrow under the deck) and let her sit on them when she feels like it. Probably later this spring.
Moved the greenhouse group of pullets to the main coop. Transition went well, but those rotten birds just won't lay in a nesting box. Found a nest of four eggs down in a giant stump near the creek this morning. The others are laying in the hay stacked up beneath the deck. The bantams continue battling over the cat house to lay their eggs. Luckily, it's two floors, so they leave the broody alone.
Butchered Ozzie, the bantam cochin rooster. He attacked me one too many times, and was a sneaky little turd about it. Turned him into a delicious broth, and the dogs ate the rest of him.
I now have a beautiful 10 month Isbar rooster from Greenfire farms that I scored. He's not perfect, but he's not aggressive towards people so I consider that a win. He also leaves the bantam girls alone, which is nice.

I just locked down my new horse eggs!

Hey, Tessie!! You came back the same day I did! I had to ground myself for a while, hubby says I was getting obsessive, bahahaha!

We just lost one of our Brahma hens.

We found her this morning not doing well, brought her in and saw she had what looked like egg yolk coming from her vent. We gave her a calcium pill, and set her in a box in the garage to give her some time.

I just found her flipped over, barely breathing, and she quit breathing while I was holding her. This hen gave us two daughters, I’m going to miss her a lot.

Necropsy to come later.

Necropsy done. She was egg bound, extremely obese, and looks like had a heart attack that sent her over the edge.
I pulled the egg out of the tract, but placed it in the photo were it was found just on the surface level instead of the tract. It was incredibly fragile, one tap on it and part of it cracked. Ignore the food coloring. Apparently my first pair of gloves had some on them so I had to switch.

Yeah, we’ve decided to move away from it. Not enough time or desire to get the project really going.

Thank you though, she was a good bird. One of our kindest ones, never went broody though, so she never got to raise any of her chicks.

Speaking of thinking of you, I was gifted a Hello Kitty Fresh giftcard which made me think of you.
