➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I don't know if I have any.... I think my ex husband ended up with them all... I'll do some digging though... I think I have one handy from when I was @ KBSG (oldies).
The golden oldies! I remember hearing some of my favorite singles on that station!

It depends greatly on what time of year they hatched and the amount of daylight they get... but from everything I've heard it could be any time after 18 weeks. None of my hatches from last summer laid anything until a few weeks ago. Mind you, I'm a lot further north, so there's a lot less daylight in the winter.
Excellent, thanks! This is exactly the information I was looking for.

Cayugas hopefully... and most likely balutties :p
Cayugas! Mine are amazing layers. Getting five eggs a day for over a month now and no supplemental light. They are between four and five years old. Many folks have commented that theirs are quieter than other breeds. I contest this strongly as mine are freaking loud, but they really are awesome layers... plus, black ducklings are ridiculous.

How's the pup & the kids Conan? New pics would be great too!
Everyone is doing great! Been working with the young pup on his training every day and he is pretty darn responsive. Knows all his commands, but has an independent streak, which is nice in many ways and annoying in others. Edie, the black and tan kid, is such a hog that it's hard to get pics of her face. Anyhow, here's a photo bomb.

View attachment 1718753 I got so confused by this. I was like “wow Banty you have seals on your property?! You really are far north!” :lau

Thank goodness it is Friday.
:lau :lau
I'm not quite that far north, thankfully, or the ducks' water requirements might drive me off the edge.

:gig:lau
I did the same thing!

The crazy people are always my favorite :old
No wonder you just love me :p

You say that now. Wait until you lock them in the closet with seals. The noise is nothing compared to the fish smell!

Yes, she has seals when the ice starts thawing and flowing. The north pole is a lively place all year round!

Batty - lovely birds. Smart enough to stay away from the seals too! How are your fish doing?
I have to take pot shots at them sometimes to keep them out of my garden. Irritating beasts.

Yes! They all flock to my boots. No idea why as there's countless feet of snow right outside their pop door.

Yup, just chooks for now. Now that I have running water it will be a lot easier to add duckies.
I really would love to ask them what they're thinking.

I just love your pics. You've got the best chicken pics and @R2elk has the best wildlife pics.
Thanks. They're not very good at this time of year, though, with all the mud we've got.

Question on the Chanteclers. Getting as many inputs as I can, soooo you and Banty. When do your pullets start laying, on average?
10 months, maybe? My birds are late to lay though, I'm not sure why. Even my Leghorns take about 8.

Agreed. My dead Cayuga was loud, her sister wasn’t until she died. Delilah is still laying though, almost every day for a year now.

I second the barn hearts! Are you guys going to put an offer in? How many acres is the property?
We’re doing pro and con lists. It’s really far for all of us to drive to and from work/school. It’s on 5 acres I think? Not really as much as I wanted but we don’t really have much of a choice unfortunately.
