It's not for keeping monsters out right?
I just had to make sure.Yeah, just for keeping them separated. There’s a big solid wooden door on this end with a fence gate latch on top and one of those sliding latch thingies on the bottom. I just had the door open for the picture lol but the coop is secure, hardware cloth under all the eaves and HC on the two little windows as well. The only possible thing is the pop door because there isn’t hardware cloth all the way around the run but I plan on remedying that tomorrow or Monday depending on the weather. Even the nest box door is really heavy. Like insanely heavy LOL and has like a piece of wood/frame around it on the bottom so it shuts tight. We kind of way overdid the coop lol
I just had to make sure.
Are you putting the babies out on day one?
Looks good! How big is the space for the wee ones? How many? I can't remember how many you ordered...Finally almost ready for the little fluff balls.

Are you going to do the heating pad thing? After doing it once a couple years ago, I will NEVER go back to a lamp!Yeah I know and I’m glad you did. Gotta make sure the littles are safe!! We do have a huge roll of hardware cloth too and one vinyl coated chicken wire but that stuff is much harder to work with, particularly the HC, and I figured it was kind of overkill for the inside lol, so since I also found this lying around I figured we’d just throw this up real quick, just stapled up.
And yeah I think so but idk. I might end up keeping them inside the first day or two knowing me LOL I am paranoid. But it also might be a good idea so I can keep a closer eye on them after shipping. But the last ones I kept inside for 3 weeks and I don’t really want more inside chickens, they were so messy, but I might get like a little tub or bin or something temporary to keep them in for a day or two to get toasty and acclimated lol but they’re definitely going out first week ha
And do think that area is big enough for them?

I think you've got a great plan. Well done! I really like the idea of having the big girls see them right off the bat. Should make integrations nice and easy. Thanks!! I think it’s maybe 2x4? The coop is 4x8 and I just took like the back quarter of it by the people door for easy access. I would have taken half of it but I didn’t want to take too much room away from the big girls even if it’s temporary haha and I ordered 5! Do think that space is okay? I am only planning on keeping them in it maybe 2 or 3 weeks max, just long enough for me to expand the run and set up an outside brooder. Or maybe fully integrate. Though I’m not planning on that for a while.
Yup!! I used it for my first batch and I too will never go back!! Well, I actually never got the chance to try a lamp!! Lol I had actually just bought a red heat bulb but then I read the MHP article right before I got my chicks and decided that sounded wat better and that was that!! And they were so quiet and much happier and healthier that now I’m just like... nope. Never going back or trying that lol unless maybe I get meat chickens or quail since I hear MHP doesn’t really work for them but for baby chicken chicks, no way lol
