➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

oh if it was a nice treat on special occasions that would be great... once a week would be ok... 2x a day every day..plus $50 +of junk snacks from the grocery store gone in less than a week.. not so great for a person's body or saving money.. which she is having issues with and is saying she needs help with.
Sometimes the more expensive restaurants do pay better wages, sometime they don't.. have to know someone to know the truth.. some restaurants have a separate charge for employee health INS on your bill ..According to the news anyway https://yourmileagemayvary.net/2019...charges-to-help-pay-for-employee-health-care/ I would assume the price of the meal should cover the operating costs, which to me should include health care.

I’m not really sure where you’re getting these numbers from?? I have been really good with the healthy eating thing and making myself breakfast and lunch and salads and everything until the last few days. And even then the only day this week I have eaten out twice in one day was the other day with the Panera and Outback. And even when I was eating at Subway almost daily it was only once a day and usually wouldn’t be until later in the day so often it was the only meal I ate. And again lately until the past few days I have been being good. So I am not really sure where this eating out twice a day every single day thing is coming from??? Because it is just not true. And neither is the eating all the snacks thing. I think I did do that once. But the last purchase, the $70 whatever it was from Ocean State (which yes I know was a lot of money), was like a month ago at least and I still haven’t finished those snacks and some I haven’t even opened yet. And in fact, I haven’t even been eating ANY snacks or crap at all lately. The only thing I have been eating is meals I’ve made or the eating out thing, which is the only bad thing I’ve been doing. But I haven’t even been eating any of the snacks and definitely haven’t been eating out twice a day every day soooo?????

I don't think anyone here mentioned eating out as "evil".
If someone is going to constantly post about feeling like crap for making bad eating choices, then continue making those same choices, I hardly think pointing out the obvious is shaming.

You are right, the “evil” comment was hyperbole on my part. And I definitely agree about the health aspect of eating out. Home cooked is typically healthier. I am all for encouraging kdog (and anyone else struggling with eating choices) to eat more at home for the sake of her health, and to look for healthier options when she does go out. I am totally on board for those types of helpful reminders.

However, there were at least half a dozen posts specifically commenting on the price of the food. Even a post asking about kdog’s father’s job which to me, passive aggressively implies that he is either rich or irresponsible and I felt that was unfair. I worked in the restaurant industry for over a decade. My husband has been doing it 20 plus years. And customer complaints about price are always a pet peeve of mine, because many people (I am speaking generally here) fail to consider the shear number of man hours, utility costs, rent, and building up-keep that goes into running a restaurant. And all those expenses must be paid for by food and drink sales.

And I hear you Molpet. There are fancy restaurants that pay crap too. But the reason many fast food places are so cheap is because of poor pay (DH managed a Burger King many years ago so I have direct knowledge of this) as well as reduced labor costs from not having dedicated bus people, hosts, etc.

Tl:dr. Burgers are not health food and I agree with kdog’s desire to get healthy by cutting out high fat, high sugar foods. But I stand by my unpopular opinion that the cost of that meal was not absurd.

Is there any chance you could start cooking for the family? Even if they don’t eat it at first, eventually they’ll realize that you aren’t going to give into their eating out fantasy?

You could easily look up different meals, start a meal plan, then cook them for everyone. It’d give you something to do, allow you to have a voice in the matter, while also keeping healthier choices on the mind and in the stomach.

Personally meal planning doesn’t work for my family, but it may help with the eating out tendency, though it’s always entirely up to you, I’m just trying to find a solution that helps you have a choice on your food consumption.
Great idea! Maybe take suggestions from everyone in your family about what style of food to try (Mexican, Thai, Italian etc.) then try to find some healthy versions?

Thanks. Yeah, I think I probably could. And they have actually said they want me to start cooking some, they want to start taking turns, but I never want to. But I think I probably should. But since we’re being honest, I may as well say the Five Guys was my idea but he liked it agreed and his suggestion was not much better at pizza. Neither of us wanted to cook. And it was late. So didn’t really have much of a choice there. The Outback I wanted to take my mom out but I guess we could have walked or done something else instead. But sometimes the eating out is my idea and sometimes it’s not. Today it wasn’t but I chose healthy. Or tried to.

But I do want to start cooking more. Because believe it or not I DO want to change. It’s just hard.

I actually agree with you. It wasn't $27 for two burgers, it was for two burgers two shakes and fries. Not unreasonable at all. Not to mention I've eaten at that chain and it is good grub if not good for you. :drool

That’s a great idea!! Thank you!!
No problem lady. Keep trying!!!
You could also try a meal/ ingredient delivery service, like Blue Apron or Hello Kitty Fresh. They cost more than regular grocery shopping, but might help you plan meals and stick to the plan instead of going out (if that is something you want to cut back on).

Thank you again CSA. I really appreciate it. :hugs

You are absolutely right about the overhead costs and everything and I do appreciate the defense even if it’s not entirely necessary. Idk if it is or not. But I did think the job thing was a little odd or was a little uncomfortable but I love everyone here and know that wasn’t the intention so I answered it anyway but I didn’t think it was that bad price wise. Health wise, sure. But idk. I didn’t really see how that was relevant.

Anyway, I kind of thought maybe it was just me or didn’t even really think it was bad until you said something and now the stuff after even though it’s not the intention honestly kind of feels like I’m being attacked and I’ve been sitting here with tears streaming down my face.

I don’t know if it’s just because my period started today and I’m just overly sensitive or if I really should be upset by some of them or what but I normally NEVER get upset by anything you guys say because I know you never mean to be mean or do it out of malice unlike some posts and posters where I have cried over far less elsewhere but usually I never do here because I like everyone and consider you all friends but for some reason today I can’t seem to stop the waterworks. :barnie:oops:

I think it is probably just me being overly sensitive though. As usual

Exactly!! The shakes and fries jacked up the prices! Plus all the burger toppings and shake mix ins are free which I think is a good deal because they also have like Oreo and peanut butter and some really fancy ones.

And yes it is delicious!! Lol
