➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I used to have a bat that lived above the door to my deck during the summer. Unfortunately something got it and no others moved in.

So stinking cute! I don't know how people can not like them. Hummingbirds are lout too. the chirping and the wings that sound like a B-52

Nothing sounds like a B-52. Buffs are loud. ;)

Hummingbirds have tiny chirps. Loud wings, but tiny chirps.
LOL not the volume, just the thrum.... and when you get 20 hummers chirping and dive bombing each other it is surprisingly loud. I love them. I have 4 feeders on my patio and have had as many as 20 ish swarming around. Hard to count until you get a bunch that settle on the feeders at the same time.

I didn't like running extension cords to my coop either so I actually had an electrician come out and run power to the coop. It is a normal household electrical run, buried conduit to a box and a GFI outlet on the wall. It is to code so I don't worry about fires or mowing over an electrical cord!
I have run power to all of my outbuildings. It allows me to keep my brooder in my coop rather than in the house. It allows me to be able to turn lights on when I need to be able to see. It also would allow the use of an electric heater if I used them.

How are you?
Tired lol. It's been a long day. Was outside in the heat a lot today. It is just draining, ya know? This afternoon I went and grabbed Elvis and tried giving him a good look over. I don't really know what I am looking for but I figure if I see something off or just doesn't quite look like it is normal, I will know. Or of course if I see any bugs. That would be a sure give away that something is wrong. I didn't see anything that would look like bugs or eggs or anything. I checked under his wings and around his vent area. His feathers look pitiful and I am seeing a lot of what I think is called "blood feathers". You can see the blood in the shafts of the feathers. It looked like I had dandruff after I got done handling him from all of the breakage of the feathers (well, I should say the shafts). His skin looked pink. As weird as it may sound, I am led to believe it truly is a type of molt. I'll keep an eye out on him over the next few days to a week and see if anything changes. I saw a post on a mite/lice infestation that someone else was going through so it made me concerned again so that is why I checked on him. I just wanted to be sure is all. Other than that, I tried giving the chickens and ducks some frozen peas as a treat today. I figured the bump of protein would help if there was a molt going on as well as a cool snack to help with the heat. I put them in a pan and covered them with water. It starts to thaw them out and gives them some cool water to drink as well. The baby ducklings wouldn't go near the peas to even try them. They think I am a big scary monster. Except when I have the hose and I spray them. Then they think that is a fun game and try to eat the water. They are so stinking cute! And they are starting to find their quacks. And one of the young chickens laid an egg this morning or some time in the night from their roost bar in their coop and it busted. Someone's laying schedule is all messed up so I am hoping that will work itself out. I got a greenish egg today that I am not sure who laid it. It was outside of the coop on the ground. I think Easter Egg hunts are in my future.

HEY GUYS!!! There's no way I'll ever catch up, but I'm going to definitely be chiming in sometimes now. How weird is it that I've thought of many of you since my last login. I was extremely busy with school, kids, boards, and now a new job and just didn't have the time for distractions so I haven't logged in in a LOOONNNG time. However I could not be happier to see this thread alive and well. @Texas Kiki (you changed your name?) do you have the longest lived thread yet?

So, since I'm the only loser awake now, I'm going to update you guys on the latest happenings in my boring life and then I'll do a little back reading to see what you've all been up to. I'm now a respiratory therapist! Whoot! (Just saying!) I only work PRN; however, I bagged a great job at a trach care/ vent weaning hospital, and I love what I do. We still have Pearl and olive, the adorable little kittens you all welcomed in with me. They're no longer adorable kittens though. They are now very annoying tiny adult cats. So annoying that I want to kick them out, yet so tiny that I don't know if they've got what it takes to make it out there in the great unknown (huhmm.. the front yard). We've also still got cotton (my little pekingese spirit animal that's the most amazing little fat snorting creature you'll ever know!!) and tallullah (the amazing and ever shedding rescue dog) and the chickens. My fam is doing great! We've had no enormous life changes and nothing really big going down to speak of, but just wanted to reintroduce myself and basically say it's good to be back and talk with everyone.
