➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Yesterday was my largest haul in quantity of eggs in 1 day so far.

Varying in sizes, of course, but got 11. And technically it is 12 because we found an egg in the yard when my hubby went to go let them out of the coops this morning. He says he can guarantee that it wasn't there at that spot when he let them out yesterday. It is highly traveled because he goes through that area when he puts out their food every morning and picks up their food every evening. And when he went to put their food out this morning he noticed it immediately. I have an Australorp that hasn't been laying. She was trying to go broody for a while and I've been keeping an eye on her. Only chicken that it could be. I sure hope so! I've been worried about her. Today I only got 7 eggs so far and it's kind of late so I'm not really expecting any more today. I do expect some early layers fighting over the nest boxes come morning time tho. Also..... I've been waiting for this for WEEKS. Ever since my local store feed owner told me that they were making it.

40lb bag of DUCK pellets. :celebrate I am just so happy y'all! I have been buying the 5lb bags and going through 2-3 bags a week, depending on their growth spurts. I am hoping this will end up being a more economical option. The store owner would keep telling me, "You know you can just use the flock raiser if you run short." Yes, I know. But the flock raiser doesn't have the niacin in it like this duck feed does. I don't know. Before, with my first flock of ducks, I had issues with feet turning inwards and then Xena with seizures. Then had to play catch up with supplements to get stuff under control. This time around with them being on the duck feed, I haven't had a single issue at all. Maybe it is luck this time around, maybe the feed helped or maybe it is a combination of factors. I am just happy with my experience. :clap

So many pretties! I like the date stamp idea. Do you discard after a certain amount of time or do you still float test them as well?

Can I see your stamp please?
I want one.

We literally just got the stamper 2 days ago. Unfortunately, due to my laziness, I have thrown out more eggs than I should have. Most were duck eggs but still. Most of the time we were able to keep tract well but we've gone through spurts where they just built up and I felt more at ease throwing them out than keeping. I've only float tested a couple of times (it's that laziness thing that I mentioned above). And now that we are going to have more layers I am trying to be better and keep track better. And also if I sell any, which is becoming more frequent but still on a small scale, I want to be sure that I am giving them the freshest eggs. I'm just trying to be more diligent and productive.
