I have several HUGE trees in my back yard. Hickory, I believe. And I despise the nuts. These are huge nuts and also covered in an outer green shell. I’ve tried to crack them, but it’s almost impossible to do. I even looked up how to crack hickory nuts thinking I might could make some money off these things. Nope, I’m not gonna subject myself to that aggravation in order to try to make money.
I’ve already shot out two from under the lawnmower and shattered one large picture window and put a good sized hole in another. I can’t walk in my back yard because they are a trip hazard. Seriously! For me anyway. I actually have two sizes of nuts, come to think of it and the smaller ones are the nuts I go slip sliding on...all the way down the hill. My feet have actually zipped right out from under me on multiple occasions. My whole back yard is probably a 30* slope and my coops are built at the top of it soooo, there ya go. I have no other choice than to fight them. Many years I’ve tried raking them up, which isn’t an easy task. And then I have to haul them off to the back pasture one wheelbarrow load at a time. They don’t burn! I’ve tried.Truly, these things are a PIMA.
Anyone have any ideas what I can do? These trees will be here long after I’m gone so I’ve just got to learn to live with them.
I about twisted my ankles a few times stepping on them. I feel ya!
