➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I used to be so tempted every time I went into a store with chicks and I still get the fever when I see them but I'm not nearly as tempted to buy anymore. Not since chicken math got me good the first year. I overloaded myself with 16 chickens in a backyard flock. My coop is plenty big enough, I just didn't need or want that many. Now when I get tempted I just come home and start planning for when the time comes to buy more.

Yeah, I’m up to 11 now :lau

Would be 12 but I just lost one last month.

Anyway, I definitely don’t need more, and usually I am not tempted at all, because they don’t normally have very many or any breeds that I want but today they had soooo many, all breeds I would want or already have, and mostly all pullets. :love And all looked healthy and active. I swear I almost bought some. :lau

I am super happy with the 8 that I got from Meyers. I love my colorful egg layers. I can tell everybody apart from one another and none of them lay the same color egg which is cool to me as well. I get a light blue, a minty green and an olive colored. I wanted to get an official "Olive Egger" but they were sold out at the time so the fact that I got one inadvertently is just AWESOME! And then my BCM is dark brown and so cute. My Welsummer just laid her first egg yesterday so I'll have another dark brown layer. My "white" egg layers are more ivory/creamy white. Still contrasts to what I was getting before so I am ok with it. Now I am just waiting on my Blue Ameraucana to lay. They will be 6 months old Monday. Anyone here have them and can tell me when they usually start laying? I know it can vary in breeds. She is a slow bloomer.

Oh wow that is awesome!! Seems like you love them a lot. :love

I love mine too. All of mine also came from Meyer. Love them. :love

I have always had all brown layers except two Easter eggers so wanted different colors as well as different looks beside solid :lau

Although that said I can kind of tell them apart by shape. Like the Orps lay these small round eggs and a darker brown and my Barred Rock used to lay these huge, long, creamish almost white eggs and somewhat weird shapes as she got older. I miss her :hit

Anyway, I also had multiple of each breed so couldn’t tell them apart for a while but I can now. Still sometimes have to look closely at some to be sure though lol But now the new ones are 5 different breeds so I can tell them apart haha got mostly brown layers again though. :lau but I did get a White Leghorn and another Easter Egger too so looking forward to those eggs haha

I have a lavender ameracauna, but she came from a breeder not Meyer. If I remember correctly she was closer to 8 mo when she started. Also I think next time I redo my flock I'm only getting like 3-4 hens and 1 roo, all of one breed. I did exactly like you at first and got colorful layers but found some disappointing as they didn't tolerate my climate as well as others.

Just a general question to everybody no particular person. So has anybody been putting any applications in for any jobs? Like i said no one singled out or nothing just wondering. I for one have not been.
:gig
I have been. Kind of. I had a long conversation with our vet and head vet tech the other day about the best way to get a clinic job in a college town.
I’ll be working on my resume this semester and will start handing it out in november/december, when everyone is packing up to go home for Christmas break.

It will be a breeze for hubby to squeeze in somewhere.
Every clinic is full of 5’4” female vet techs. Everyone wants a big strong man to do the heavy lifting.

Went and saw that new movie “Scary Stories to fall in the dark” today. I almost never go to the movie theater because it gives me migraines, but of course I can’t turn down a horror movie date with my mother in law.
My MIL and I had a blast with it, it’s a fun movie to gross you out. It’s got some mild but very creative spooks.
