➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Yea i do those too  of course it started for the little ones, but my two in the pantry are like blueberry yogurt. Theyre good but i was embarrassed by the label. And i dont have any as healthy as yours
I'll wear grandma shoes to the grocery store to buy them for myself and tell anyone who will listen that I plan to chug them and not think twice about it.

Yea i dont care either what the strangers think :gig but what would my Mother in Law think? My real life friends might decide im not coming back from this one.

Absolutely. Not really something that can be compared.
I don't know of any actually local farmer's markets, though if I could find one I imagine it would be more comparable. You've got to travel to the less rural areas here before they start popping up.

It's the same people selling locally and over there—they just charge more when they haul their stuff into town to sell.

I live in a super small "city" surrounded by a lot of open area that's just outside of city limits. Most of us "city" people only have a yard that doesn't necessarily accommodate a large garden so our farmers market can be a vital resource as going straight to the source (aka the plant) isn't always an option. Technically some of them do bring things into the city but our " city" (we are actually considered a city) is 2 miles x 2 miles approximately so not much time spent traveling and considering its country roads that lead straight into town, no interstate driving or other major towns/ cities to drive through to get here from where they are located (again some live right here) there's not a lot of travel expense on their part. My grandma lived in a very rural area in north Louisiana and catered to small towns around her home. She made her living this way.

Gotcha, makes sense. It's neat to me how southern and northern areas differ so much in how they're laid out and connected to surrounding areas.

You seem pretty sure about that. Do you have friends who haven't seen you lately?
I am pretty sure about it, for basically my entire life I've found it to be practically impossible to find friends that share common interests at school, and it's hard to be friends with someone if you share no common interests.
You're more creative than that but you do seem to struggle with focusing on what you can't do rather than what you can.
Maybe I do. I do tend to think about the worst possible scenario, one good example of that was when I was in third grade, and there was an earthquake drill, and I remember talking to my teacher afterwards because I was concerned about the possibility of the ground liquifying in the case of an earthquake, because the school was built in an area with silty soil and groundwater.
But your language skills are strong. Do you think authors punch a clock?
I'm awful at making up stories. Previously, I wanted to have a career doing scientific research and publishing it, but right now I feel like I can't do anything, and I'm not exaggerating.

The biggest craziest difference, to me, is the whole air conditioning thing.

I just bought some Dr. Scholls freestep sneakers. I have no idea what works for my feet because I’ve never ventured outside of toms and converse.

On another note.. I HATE spending money on myself. Why can I drop $50 on the dogs without blinking, but I need a freaking sign from God to spend that much on sneakers?
(the sign from God was frantically stuffing my toms with dog toy fluff at 7am this morning, praying hubby wouldn’t walk through and catch me... no comment)

Yes. The wisest and smartest cookie. That’s me.

Hey, nothing wrong with that.
When I have bad days I make lists of every step of my day. It’s a coping mechanism.. if it looks stupid but it works, then it ain’t stupid.

That second part made me laugh :lau

But I’m the same way tbh. I can spend a ton on the pets, make sure they have the best whatever, but then meanwhile I only have like a few pairs of sneakers I wear daily and mostly wear t shirts and shorts daily and eat like crap most days :lau

That said, I do somewhat have a problem with buying like band merch or books or whatever. I’ve been better lately but occasionally have a bit of a spending problem but I don’t spend it on anything useful lol clothes or shoes or anything :lau

Meanwhile the pets all have sooo much stuff :lau

And thank you. That does make me feel better tbh. :hugs

It’s lame but sometimes I have to do that or I won’t remember. :lau

You should get over your fear and make the cottage cheese popsicles :gig

Sounds nasty LOL

That texture wouldn't be pleasant frozen. Like licking a popcorn ceiling.

What's in the kitchen that is both easy and nutritious? Have you tried the meal replacement shakes? I think getting your nutrition on a better path might help. I'd feel like crap if I ate like that, too.

X2! On all of it lol cottage cheese popsicles sounds disgusting lol

And yup! Whenever I eat like shit, processed foods, sugar, etc. it’s a given that I will both feel like shit physically and mentally and usually get depressed. It’s a real thing. They say food can have a huge impact on your mental health. Grain/bread too.

I rather shovel horse poop all day.

AH HA! So that’s why you wanted me to shovel so much earlier... you enjoy it! :lau

I definitely don’t but I will try it if I can manage to without barfing everywhere :lau

Currently trying to eat lunch.

You know, I think this is karma for my mom and I making fun of my dad about his cold and wondering why he was laying around so much, saying it’s just a cold, quit being a baby, get up and do something, etc. and thinking it was just “man flu”...... :lau  yeah.... this is a horrible cold. I feel like dog shit. :lau Definitely karma. :lau

I don't like shakes like that :tongue

Try! Or a vitamin mix drink at least.

You don't have to like them just chug it hold your nose and chug it.

:lau x2

Cottage cheese looks like something you'd drain from an abscess.

Okay ewwwwww. :sick:sick

God just told me to tell you to buy some good sneakers, screw the price tag. I might be paraphrasing.

:lau

So does red bull count as a meal replacement?

No lol

Red bull makes you feel like you are dying.
It's the devil throw it away.

:lau true

But you told me to drink it the other day :hmm

So you would do something but it didn’t work lol

No. I know you're smart enough to understand a nutrition label.

X2!

@CarpCharacin You seem to have a pretty good understanding of what doesn't work for you and a genuine enjoyment of banter. I'm curious to know if you have any ideas about what you can do to start your healing process?

good idea.

This made me snort.

Me too lol

I changed my mind, I was wrong.

Me too ha

I'm meeting with the school counselor, and I have an appointment with the sleep specialist. I'm already keeping a log of what times I wake up and go to sleep at.

Good idea but I do think you should find another therapist.

That's a start. How about a food diary? Simple accountability helps some people.

Good idea.

I'm not sure about a food diary :hmm

You are already keeping a sleep diary. Should be simple to just add food to it.

Another hot button. I like Mrs. Tessa's idea for motivation listing thing you know youll do and checking them off before you move on... key for me at my worst was just going outside. Once i got outside i felt better and i might just sit outside n watch birds but eventually i was able to leave my house everyday again.

I love this idea too!

X2! On everything. I’ve definitely had days where I don’t even go outside all day.

But I feel like shit. So going outside definitely helps. I always feel better once I do haha

Can you, will you consider trying something while you wait for the sleep appointment. That's a really long time away.

X2

I think he needs to find a new therapist.

Or any diary, really.

I went through a really, really hard time once and I wrote a freaking book's worth of feels out. And it was cathartic for me but even more so when I read it later armed with hindsight. It helped me not repeat the mistakes that had landed me in that dark place.

Very true. I used to write stuff down/journal a lot and it did really help.

I’ve never reread mine though, I think it would just make me depressed all over reliving it and especially I was pretty negative/nasty/mean in it. Thinking of burning it lol

I've tried the melatonin and stuff. I've had this sleep problem for as long as I can remember, but it's been making me feel especially bad recently.

:hugs

Those are fast and easy but no sure they’re the healthiest but eating anything is better than nothing at this point.

Have you unplugged the internet for a week yet?

Good idea.

No, and I doubt I will, that would make me feel worse.

I don’t think it will. Internet/phone/social media addiction is a real thing and can make you feel worse.

The whole too much screen time is a real thing.

Could you try it for just 2 days?

X2!! It’s very real.

I'm not sure if I could, it would probably make me more depressed.

I really believe it would help you rather than hurt you. Being on the screen too much does not help depression and possibly even causes it. I would know ha

You should try going for a walk, reading a book, hanging out with your animals, drawing/painting, writing, anything other than being on the phone or computer. I really believe it would help you. And maybe it doesn’t have to be for a whole week or two whole days or anything like Kiki said. Maybe it starts with a couple hours. Or even maybe just an hour at first. If you can’t get off it for a whole hour, start with 5 minutes. Get up, get a glass of water, walk around a bit, come back. Baby steps. But I really believe it will help you.

Our farmers market was hopping today! I got peaches, potatoes, tomatoes, yellow squash, zucchini, cheese, milk, & sausage. :woot

Btw... does anyone else feel guilty at the small farmers markets when you pass some vendor booths without buying anything or is this just a weird condition I have?

That is awesome!!

Would you listen to a doctor if they told you you needed to?

Hopefully.

Maybe, but it would make me a lot more isolated, and a lot more depressed.

I really do not think it will. In fact, they’ve done studies that show that excessive phone/internet use can actually make you feel more isolated, lonely, depressed, etc. that’s because you have so many friends online, followers on social media, lots of likes, whatever but none of them are there in real life and usually when you’re online, you’re inside or otherwise isolated from real people/real life. So being online too much actually makes you feel more isolated. Do you have any IRL friends you could hang out with even just for a little bit? Or siblings? Go hang with your animals even. Just get off the phone temporarily. I promise you will feel better. I know it’s hard, I’m usually on my phone all day every day, rarely put it down, always on here, Twitter, or FB, and it’s hard to put it down and pull yourself away but I’ve been trying lately and you can too. Technology addiction is a very real thing just like any other addiction and you have to break the cycle. I promise you will feel better if you do. No one’s saying you have to just throw it away and all of a sudden magically be super productive but it starts with baby steps. Force yourself to get up out of bed, force yourself to eat, force yourself to shower, force yourself to drink something, etc. and it will be hard. Not gonna lie. But then I promise it will start to snowball and you will feel better. Just gotta keep one foot in front of the other and keep pushing on, pushing through. You’ll make it. :hugs

I'll probably end up panhandling for a living.

I know you can do a lot more than that. :hugs

Never. One look at the price tags assuages any doubtful feelings I may have about not purchasing from them. They cater to the city folk that travel in, and their prices reflect that! I prefer to go direct to the sources. It's much cheaper.

:lau true lol although ours often are the source, the farmers or small people go there hah

Does you mom know this?

X2. I hope they know how he is feeling. You really should tell them, Carp.

It's what I've told her I feel like, and I also told the therapist that I was seeing before he quit. For me to have a job, it would probably need to have flexible hours, which the only jobs that I'll probably ever be qualified for, such as fast food, don't have.

:hugs

What about something IT related? You are good at computers, right? I think you could easily do something like that and you may even be able to find something where you can work from home which might work for you.

You are super smart so I know that you will get past this and you will find a good job and have a good life :hugs

Since i know i would just waste most of that good for you stuff i dont feel too bad but if im looking too close at something and we talk about it then im doomed.

Also much worse feeling at livestock swaps. I hate to see critters in bad shape and often know some things id like to try to fix it. Closing my flock after certification helped cuz now i have a good Reason to say no but at one time the motley crew was my backyard. I have an album of the 2016 coturnix rescue on here. They laid inside of 1 wk for me but he had had them 7 months without collecting a single egg their conditions were just so bad. I dont think they had ever seen dust before they were so Greasy, he told me he had been regularly Hosing them off .

The last rescue was 4 buttons from my local feed store. I went in for one cot for the loner i had due to the gnat fiasco and these things were All bare backed half of em openly bleeding waaaay too many cramed in a little fishtank. I went home with 7 birds in total

Oh wow! I can see why you rescued them! Would have too tbh haha

We don't have city folk here and our vendors are the sources. They little old folks who've grown and produced things in their gardens, greenhouses, homesteads, etc. Just little people trying to make themselves a little extra money off of something they are good at. Today we literally had 6 vendors there. I'm thinking my farmers market and your farmers market are nothing alike.

Oh wow that is a tiny farmers market! Haha I think I’d feel bad then too lol we have a few different ones here and they’re not too expensive but some of them are and some have like crafts or whatever too. They’re not huge though, more than 6 but not a ton. Idk. I like them. But now my garden’s so huge I don’t really need to go to them. :lau

I rather shovel horse poop all day.

Back when I worked for a lg animal vet, I NEVER minded shoveling horse poop. I guess it's bc I got to be outside hanging with the horses.

@BantyChooks i hate to admit I wouldn't even know how much different or alike it is. My step mom is from Vermont and it's very country and open and sounds amazing but I haven't been yet. They usually bring me syrup from there when she and my dad visit me.

I guess, but I feel like I'd do poorly since I don't feel like it's something that I'm passionate about, and I'd still be giving up what I truly want to do.

Anyway, I'll try to get outside and do something today.
