➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Found this old fable thing I apparently had to write from I think early high school? Or possibly middle school? And I was just straight up laughing cause A. It is a ridiculous story. Kinda cute but ridiculous. and B. It has so many grammatical errors and punctuation misuse, etc. that I think @BantyChooks might have a conniption fit or a stroke if I posted it. :lau

Also.... yes it’s about animals again and yes the animals are chickens, dogs and horses yet again :lau  and a cat. But I am noticing a serious theme here lol every single story is about chickens, dogs, and/or horses :lau

Also you can tell I didn’t have chickens yet when I wrote both of these cause they’re very unrealistic with regards to that :lau and you can tell what breed I wanted at the time cause I listed the specific breed :lau

I'm finally caught up. :caf
All the post on reptiles...older grandsons have Iguana and crested gecko. Younger grandsons have a salt water tank....supervised by their mom. Their moms don't allow snakes.
My mother was a science teacher so we had several snakes, spiders including three tarantulas, and fish ranks with a diverse variety of fresh water fish.

It has been busy here on the farm.
Three doctor appointments.

The heifer 34w is doing great in her cast. She now can sprint across the lot holding her leg forward just above the ground. Hard to describe but hilarious to watch. The cast comes off the end of the month.

Bomber the bull is finally back to eating feed and hay and has actually begun grazing again. Ended up getting dexamethazone (steroids) for him from the vet and are also giving him B Complex shots. The heat has been 15 degrees above normal so he was laying in the shade during the day and getting up to eat when the sun started to set.
Per vet instructions, I removed the packing patch over the eye socket. The vet did a nice job on the eye removal...it looks like he has his eye shut. Bomber's stitches come out the end of the month.

The young ducks need to be sorted and selections made for breeders or freezer. Of the 14 in the juvenile pen, a maiden duck is laying an egg now. I think it is the one that looks like a mallard.
Best I can tell there are 8 drakes in that group. I have to pick which blue drake to keep for a breeder. One has a green head and the other a brownish color. Input?
image.jpeg image.jpeg

The younger ducks were playing "King of the Mountain" on the compost heap and the mothers taught them how to seek nibbles from the hay ring. Bomber is in the background ...he was laying in the mud enjoying the shade...thus the red clay on his rump.
image.jpeg image.jpeg

And the adult flock was eager to find tidbits in a swath of grass Hubby laid down with the hay cutter.
image.jpeg image.jpeg

The boys have cut, baled and hauled hay.
I have worked 6 garden boxes over so I can plant carrots, turnips and fall greens. Tomatoes are weeded and tied to their panels. And the driveway bed, the front porch bed and the front rock garden have been weeded and sprayed.
:thAnd I'm not done yet.

Was a lot easier this time when we weren’t posting like 300 posts a day, eh? :lau

That’s awesome! Bet they love that haha I would love to have reptiles one day but I think I’ve finally decided it’s not feasible right now. Or at least that I shouldn’t get any yet ha

That said, there are always tons of reptiles and reptile supplies our Craigslist for some reason. Even rarer stuff like tegus, ackies, and skinks. And of course geckos, beardies, and always lots of snakes. Idk why but our Craigslist is very active with that stuff haha fish too. Always a lot of fish.

Human doctors appointments? Hopefully everything’s okay!

And that is awesome!! I love it. What a cuties. :lau :love

And awww glad Bomber is doing well!! :D

And I don’t really know anything about ducks or which one is “correct” or whatever but I absolutely love that one with the black (or I guess it’s green?) head. He is just absolutely gorgeous. :love although the other guy is handsome too but I love the greyish feathers on green too haha and his shape or whatever. But all the ducks are so gorgeous. :love

And that’s hilarious. :lau

They are cute too.

I love all your ducks. They are all so pretty. :love

And WOW! That is a lot! :th

Of course your mother was a science teacher.. you never cease to amaze me.

Would love to see a video of that heifer, that sounds hilarious.
Bomber looks fantastic. What a lucky dude.
And your ducks! Beautiful. I know nothing about ducks so I can’t input, but I do love that white one with the light brown chest. Looks like he tripped in a puddle of mud.

Your hard work in the garden is an inspiration. I’m looking forward to seeing pictures of next year’s blooms and produce.

How is your furniture refinishing going?
And your classes?
My schedule is packed and I’m still figuring out a routine. That’s life though, right? But, I find the days mostly fulfilling and I enjoy what I’m learning.

I had a biochemistry quiz today. I stayed up late (early?) Monday night memorizing all of the amino acids and how to make a peptide chain. I think I nailed it; hopefully that slightly makes up for my bad homework grade.
I get to watch a pig dissection on Friday, and I have my first pre-vet student meeting next week.

Furniture refinishing is on the back burner. There’s no time.. and when there is time, I sleep. Lol.
My father in law was supposed to come over this week and give me his professional opinion on the furniture, but I think he’s burning the candle at both ends as well.

If you are having to strip paint off the furniture, I do recommend the citristrip stuff. Glob or brush it on thick and come back in 25-30 minutes and scrape off the goo (have a container ready). I am trying to repaint my kitchen cabinets, from orange to white. One application of the stripping stuff took off most of the paint when I started with the cabinet doors. Now I just need to strip the other side and then I can prime and paint.

Thank you!
I was going to buy some citristrip but during demolition phase I realized that some parts of it is actually wood veneer.
Now I’m considering just sanding it down and seeing what happens.. maybe avoiding stripping altogether and staining it dark. I dunno.

Experiment. You will find what works. If you take off the veneer, Amazon sells contact paper that looks like wood, several options of colors, looks really nice in the pictures. :D
