Smart. Hopefully the inquiring agent is a dog lover. She will gain their confidence and delay them while you make your escape from the secret tunnel in the dungeon, I mean, alternate entry in the "basement" <wink>.
This was right after they found out I was going into veterinary medicine.
“Oh my god, you want to be a vet?!”
Dig up, dig up!
Meat is meat. I don’t really get it.
Of course I wouldn’t eat my dog. Nor a cow that I kept as a pet, or my favorite chicken, or even a pet fish..
If I knew that the dog was raised and slaughtered humanely, I don’t see how it’s any different to ethical cattle farming.
Raising animals for meat is all about respect. I’m less of an advocate for eating dogs, more of an advocate for acknowledging that all animals think and feel and hurt.
Even the ones that you buy prepackaged from the grocery store.
Exactly. It's not like I hate dogs, it's just that I don't see why their lives have more value than the CX I bought from the store and cut up for a stir fry last week.
No, the dog meat trade in China is very unethical unfortunately. But as you said, we can’t really point fingers when we treat our cattle and poultry like inanimate meat sacks here in the US.This makes perfect sense and I actually agree with you on all this; it makes no sense one is valued more than the other, I just think people distance themselves from the food. It comes from a grocery store so it doesn’t really matter what happened before or whatever. Although that said, I think people are a lot more aware now than ever before with all the veganism, vegetarian, even just buying ethical/organic, so less people are buying factory stuff I think, or at least most people are aware of it now even if they continue to eat it or fast food or whatever. I think people just like the convenience and most Americans will never give up their burgers. Haha but in India cows are sacred. So I can see what you mean there about how it’s no different and people in India are probably appalled we eat cows yet in Asia (not sure exactly what countries but I don’t think India? Idk) eating dog meat is common. Just depends what part of the world you’re in I guess. But sadly I don’t think most of the dog meat dogs are treated ethically at all.
but neither are cows here.
There’s actually a good book on this I will have to find. I haven’t read it yet though I bought it a while ago (surprise surprise![]()
) but I’ve heard good things.
It’s about why one animals life is valued more than another and how that came to be and stuff.
All of that said, I still can’t do it. I know theoretically it’s no different and their lives shouldn’t hold more value and maybe I’m a hypocrite for continuing to eat cows and chickens and such while refusing to eat dogs but I just can’t bring myself to do that or think of them like that. Dogs are so happy and fun and sweet and they bring so much joy that I just can’t picture them like that. Practically my entire life revolves around dogs and I think they’re such amazing animals that I just don’t think I ever could bring myself to that.
It’s weird because other animals, even other pet species, I might be able to but dogs I just... idk. I don’t think I could ever do it.
Maybe I’m a wimp.![]()
That is a good point. I don’t think their lives are necessarily worth more but I still can’t do it.
Pigs?I draw the food line at primates, dolphin, porpoise, whales, elephants , parrots (all smart animals) and pets. Unless I haven't eaten in a week or so. I can live on veggies otherwise
