I guess since they are a common food animal in USA....
I will say I thought about getting pigs to raise for food, but figured I couldn't butcher them and be hip deep in piggies

What about pigeons or squirrels?
Just curious.

I saw a very touching video on slaughtering pigs recently. It was very moving with how respectful the whole process was.
If only all our meat could be processed like this!

In reality, though, I'm certain that diseases such as the kind that occurred when cattle were fed beef would similarly afflict humans if eating our dead was a regular practice. Cross-species flesh consumption greatly limits these possibilities.

I have eaten dove, not enough meat to justify taking a life.. for me.. never had quail for the same reason.
I have eaten lots of squirrels and wild rabbits... I ate a porcupine once, I didn't think it was very good.

No, the dog meat trade in China is very unethical unfortunately. But as you said, we can’t really point fingers when we treat our cattle and poultry like inanimate meat sacks here in the US.

I think I’ve seen too many dead dogs (and animals in general) to care much about the meat itself. Once they’re dead, the suffering is over. It’s just flesh. There’s a sense of relief.
I could still never deface a pet’s body, but that’s just me. All of my pets get proper burials.. their body is sent back to the earth.

Yeah, I’ve never really understood why people get so up in arms about them eating dogs over there but then go and eat Taco Bell or McDonald’s... makes no sense. Although I guess a lot of the people upset about it probably don’t eat any meat actually but still. Surely some do in which case it is hypocritical.

And that makes sense. Maybe once it was dead it would be easier without it wagging and being all happy. But I still think I’d probably cry. I really haven’t been around like any dead dogs or many dead animals at all so I think maybe it’s different because of that?? Actually, come to think of it, I don’t think I have ever seen a dead dog... I didn’t go either of the times when our dogs were euthanized. The first time I was only like 14 or 15 so I don’t think I was even allowed (and I wouldn’t have gone anyway), and the second time, with Gator, I just didn’t think I could handle it. My dad and brother went. Only dead animals I’ve been around are some fish and parakeets, a rabbit, and a couple chickens. Maybe if I saw more dead animals I’d be used to it or something.


And as for pigs, pigeons, squirrels, I don’t really like any pig products anyway so I would have no problem going without pigs. I eat them sometimes but they’re not my favorite. And pigs are very intelligent animals so I’m starting to not want to eat them anyway.

Pigeons, squirrels, rats, etc. I wouldn’t eat just because they are very dirty animals and it would gross me out. It’s not cause I think they’re adorable or anything, it’s just disgusting haha

Porcupine huh? That sounds difficult to process. They don’t taste like other small game?

I think most people don’t realize how intelligent squirrels and pigeons are. Can’t say the same for rabbits..

I skinned it wearing leather gloves. It was a little tricky.
It tasted similar to ground hog, which I only had once. I don't care for opossum or racoons either. But I would eat them if I was short of food.

I have the same viewpoint on eating small animals. I far prefer eating beef or even pork over quail. It's why I don't raise them for meat---I just eat extras so they don't go to waste. I figure I can either supply a bunch of people for a year on one death, or kill two things every night just for supper. Slightly larger animals, like chickens, I raise for meat because I can do everything myself and I figure that makes up for them having relatively small amounts of meat on them.
