➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

I found it a rather polite debate myself. :D
Lots of opinions and discussion without rudeness.

Don't start a rescue unless you have a fortune. I know women who do it. Their homes are filthy and trashed, they're penniless, and they cry themselves to sleep every night because there are always more that they can't help.

What you can do is find a legit, small rescue that has a specific cause, no red tape/administrative costs, and support them by sending supplies or donating to the vets they use. There are a lot of them out there doing their best and they rely on community support. It's an excellent way to help if you feel the urge.

Exactly!! That’s how I felt too!! Very polite and civil and really quite refreshing since that usually never happens with these sorts of things lol I guess it just owes to the character of everybody in this thread. :D

And thank you, that is very good advice. I hadn’t really thought about that. I am sure it is very hard work. And I’m sure it is very draining not being to save them all. I hadn’t even thought of that. I feel bad I can’t save them now and figured by starting a rescue it would make me feel better because I’d be saving but I guess in reality I’d probably feel just as bad cause there would always be more. Hadn’t thought about that.

Donating is an excellent idea. I hadn’t even thought of that. Maybe I could even volunteer at one possibly?

But are there even any rescues or groups that help problematic dogs? Seems there’s always tons of puppies and young dogs imported from down south. They take all the cute, adoptable ones and leave the others it seems. :(

But surely there must be someone rescuing those dogs??

Yep, there are. The gal I got the street rat though runs a shelter out of her house. She works mainly with the Crow reservation dogs that have, for the most part, been horribly mistreated or neglected. She also pulls dogs from high euthanasia shelters like PVAC in Texas and has them sent north (she is in Montana). The dogs she gets are almost ALL problem dogs. Her rescue is called Freckles and Tomcat. She's amazing.

That is awesome!! Glad someone is helping those dogs!! :love

Maybe I could donate to her for now haha

There must be a local one somewhere too though. Off to Google lol

I wonder if I could foster or something too maybe??

Although I should probably start with easier dogs then make my way to the more problematic ones eventually haha

A lot of them turn into hoarders and end up abusing/neglecting the dogs they had high hopes of saving. Very sad situation.
Feed him!
We thought about it, but all of IV’s food is as big as he was. :gig

The philanthropy of the vet branch for the Biomedical Science Association that I’m a part of is a rescue like this. They’re dedicated to taking in “unadoptable” dogs and dogs with chronic or terminal illnesses.

Yes. They end up with a bunch of sick, difficult dogs because they can't turn one down. Those "rescues" typically go under pretty quickly.
There was an old woman in Silverdale (just north of me) that started taking in unwanted rabbits... yeah, she did not know what she was in for. They quickly took over her house and by the time the Humane Society was involved, she had over 300(!) rabbits in there in various stages of neglect. Her intentions were good, but ill informed.
The pound did a $5 bunny adoption over several months until they were all adopted. Pretty neat.

Those kinds of cases are always so sad cause they mean well and don’t mean to neglect or abuse them but get overwhelmed fast. :(

But of course sometimes so called “rescues” purposely neglect animals and take in more to make money/basically just flip them. Those I get mad at.

But if they truly have good intentions I feel bad.

I feel like if I did it, I would only take a very very limited amount in at once so that I could fully devote the time to training/working with them.

Maybe I could just foster instead. Idk.

We had a nice haul of minnows of various sizes from our creek.

The girls were like, ok hurry up already and gimme my treat!

The rest of the group became aware something most awesome was afoot and came over quickly thereafter. The ducks got a bunch as well. I tried to give tuna fish to Xena, and the others, and they just weren’t having it. They turned their bills up at it and literally shook their heads no. The snobs! So I gave it to the chickens. They were a lot more appreciative of it and gobbled it down. The gluttons! You’d think my animals are starving the way they act around treats but nope. Their just spoiled brats! But I love em! :love
