You and your husband are incredible, thank you both for your sacrifices. The Hard Rock collapse does look similar to the Murray Federal Building bombing...the fallen slabs of concrete and mangled metal. Both dangerous, unstable buildings that would require a long time to retrieve victims and to clear debris.
Our bombing site was extensive...covering a multi-block area strewn with debris, evidence and damaged buildings and shattered glass. Trees were stripped of their leaves and the building and parking garage collapsed pan caking floors and vehicles. The crater at the base of the building was huge.
My husband was an OKC police officer downtown at the time of the bombing and was on scene from the beginning. He came home for a change of clothes at midnight, couldn't sleep so went right back to their temporary police/reaction headquarters.
After teaching school during the day, I volunteered in the chaplain's section for several weeks near "ground zero" offering comfort, a listening ear, counseling and prayer with the first responders. We were stationed in the SWBell building where first responders came for meals, rest and help services.
Not many understand the visual and emotional impact those responders carry for life from these tragic scenes...especially those who help rescue and "process" the human victims and remains.
Hubby is an ex-paramedic for a reason. Being a first responder takes a heavy toll on a person.
