I haven't had Jolene spayed yet. People frown at me for it but she's not even a year old yet.

Yeah, I honestly think as long as you’re a responsible owner and keep your dog contained so they can’t cause unwanted litters, there’s really no need to spay and neuter. Problem is the average pet owner is not capable of that or of handling the typical behaviors associated with intact dogs. A lot of people neuter them just because they start humping things.

I do think though that for smaller dogs early neutering is less of an issue than it is for the large breeds.

Because cute puppies with a “rare coat colour” sell like hot cakes, and a BYB’s/puppy mill’s morals ends in their wallet.
Yes, disabled puppies get culled.

Oh yeah, no, I figured. I just like discussing.

But yeah, I’ve noticed a lot of people just expect a dog to be perfect but it requires a lot of training, no matter where you get it from. Some people think the dog should just be fully trained by 6 months or a year old and that always annoyed me. It takes constant work and reminding and they’re not fully trained and calm till like 2 or 3 at least and even then some dogs still aren’t. Of course, they can be mostly trained and/or very well trained and calm pretty young but even the best trained dog will still make mistakes. It’s still a baby. Heck, they still make mistakes even as adult dogs!

I’ve never understood people that think a dog will just magically be good and born knowing things then wonder why it’s not and why it doesn’t lol

And of course I’ve seen $3000 have health issues.

SIL knows someone with a lab who’s basically a dwarf. It’s back legs never grew.

And wow that’s awesome!! I didn’t realize there were cancer free lines. Maybe I will have to look for one if I go that route. That and longevity in the lines. So many never make it past 10

But yeah, there’s definitely pros and cons to both. My thing with most rescues, like actual rescues not CL dogs, is most of them are so expensive these days.

And of course the potential issues but most of them are great.

That’s awesome. that’s a big part of why I want a Golden. They just seem a tad bit “softer” and more in tune with their handler than Labs. Not that Labs aren’t great but Goldens seem to have that extra cuddly thing going on and desire to please just because

And oohhhh boyyyyy.... I know those kinds of trainers. My brother used to be one. Still somewhat is but much better now. But he sends a lot of conflicting messages. One second he’s allowing the dog to do something, next he’s getting mad at it for the same thing.

Not yet. Kinda forgot/gave up on it, I’ve been feeling fine lately and got tons else to do, but then again I haven’t really done those either

But it doesn’t expire until the end of March.

Originally my dad was going to take me off the insurance starting in January, I think he actually did it and told me about it after the fact, cause he wanted me to go on Mass Health, but I think he put me back on it while I figure it out so I have until March. Need to figure out the Mass Health thing. The enrollment ends this month sometime. Or it might be later. That might be for January start which I don’t need now. But I started making a profile then got distracted and didn’t finish and now it won’t let me just log in; takes me back to the make a profile page but I already have one. Need to try it on the computer.

Not even sure I want to go on it though. I’m sure any job I get will have their own insurance and even if not, I want to move next year and am seriously considering moving out of state so I don’t really want to enroll in this state’s health insurance if I am going to move.... but I could probably get it for like free or at least pretty cheap because of the income

Idk.

My biggest, and much more pressing, concern right now is calling a therapist.

My parents raised and showed dobermans, German shepherds and cocker spaniels and they culled. I only remember the shepherds. Some of the shepherds went on to be trained for k9 but they were true to the breed. If it had to be culled then that's what happened
