➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Maybe everyone in here can help me with this question...

Can I use brown or black mulch in my chickens run? The run is 7000 sq ft I want to only put it around the coop and make a path... Even though I know the path will get spread out a bit because my chickens love kicking through stuff
The dye is an issue.

Mulch? I get the free county shredded yard waste "mulch" that is brown. Ask them for the undyed material cause the chickens eat it. It may also have rot retardants that may have adverse reactions. Get the natural stuff.

I will dump a 50# Dog Food bag of this stuff out and the chickens will spread it ALL over. They love scratching through and eating something. The starting to compost bits are more interesting than the just shredded tree pieces. Stuff works great to absorb poop and smells. It rained and the ground is water logged at present. If left in a pile, the pill bugs accumulate. Bonus feed.

I vote for the undyed, untreated, natural wood bits.
They have pine mulch undyed

Walmart had dyed mulch for a really good price. I'll head to Lowe's to see what they have. If I find nothing I'll just put leaves out there
Bagged mulch is expensive. Get a price on a cubic yard of mulch from a local garden center. Better pricing. Free leaves are awesome and you get the exercise. I like leaves.
