That’s a good point. I was thinking of way on the other side of the yard deep in the woods far away from the chickens but I’m sure they will probably figure out it’s from the chickens and find the pen. Plus probably not legal like you said. Didn’t think of that. I guess I will just toss him like I did the other one I lost a while ago

That’s true and I have had a hawk get an adult before but it still sucks. I have secured it now though so if they do get into the corner, nothing can get them back there or see them. I need to get some hardware cloth to wrap it with but for now it’s kind of a mix match of stuff haha

And yeah, that’s true. I probably wouldn’t have been able to keep any anyway. Wishful thinking I guess.

But yeah, now I know. But these chicks have just been so much hassle and heartbreak I think I just wanna get rid of them all. I mean, they already turned out to be basically all boys anyway and then the one I thought I might keep gets killed. I don’t think I should keep any now. Idk.

But maybe one of the other chicks will step up and make me rethink

You can't just give up when something like this happens. You learn from it and keep moving forward. Keep the pullets that are in the group.

You crack me up. Do you always think the worse thing? My mind wouldn't go straight to rabies. I honestly would be thinking about butchering it for the dogs

I guess it must be a pretty fresh kill though and still usable but I feel weird doing that. Idk.

Do not throw it into to the woods to attract predators. Either use it as Kiki says or bury it.

I thought about burning him or tossing him into the ocean for the sharks/crabs/fish/predators there but I hate to waste him. Idk. Ocean wouldn’t draw predators and wouldn’t be a waste but idk.

Not if you bury it deep enough. I typically bury anything at least a foot deep, that includes the predators.

Yeah I know but I already have 11 other chickens anyway and if there’s only one or two pullets then that’s kind of a pain integrating so idk. I probably will keep them but them I’m not sure because it might be easier to sell the Welsummers as a pair rather than just the male alone so idk yet.

Thanks! That makes sense. I don’t know if I could dig very far with all the roots we have but I may try that. I did bury the first chicken I lost but then the last one I just tossed. I didn’t know how long she had been dead for and she was one of my favorites and I just couldn’t look at her.

But that makes the third Barred Rock I have lost.

Oh gosh... Your mom would have me go mental My mom is the same way and she is freaking out about that coronavirus. She basically wants to lock me in a bubble I told her it's only taken about 3% of the people it's infected and she was like that's a high number I about peed laughing at her. Not that the disease is funny, but how she has even made it this far in life is beyond me. She panics over everything!

The neighborhood dogs and feral cats eat the dead chickens no predator gets them ever because they find them instantly.
