Have you tried a little white vinegar in your boiling water to dissolve some of the calcium in the shells? Sure makes it easier to peel those quail eggs.
Ask one of your nurses to bring you a small towel that you could make a soft roll/pad for the area of your back that is sore.
How much vinegar does one need to add?
I use 1/4 c to a Dutch kettle for 14 chicken eggs or a 100 quail eggs. I turn off the burner and cover the eggs for a few minutes to allow the vinegar to finish off the calcium. The longer you let them sit, the more calcium is dissolved.
