I thought there were dietary only vegans? There’s different types of vegetarians so it makes sense there’d be different types of vegans too. I don’t think dietary only means they’re not vegan. Though a lot or maybe most vegans do try to avoid like leather and that stuff too. And I knew someone who wouldn’t even use serving utensils that had touched meat. But that’s extreme. But some are dietary and just don’t eat animal products including honey. And some are super extreme and think honey and eggs and stuff are “stealing” from the animals or that meat is murder or whatever but most are cool. And tbf factory farming is pretty cruel. I once had a friend that said vegetarian was no animal products and she was vegetarian and I was like I’m pretty sure that’s vegan. Vegetarians just don’t eat meat. But it’s different to everyone. But you are right that vegan is much more of a lifestyle and identity than a diet for a lot of people. Which is cool but definitely super intense/a lot of work.

The term vegan means zero animal products what so ever. That's how it started, these new age vegans are starting their own definitions of it.

I don't think you've met many vegans like I have. They're not all cool about animal product use. Most of them are die hard vegans and don't take kindly to certain things. Some vegetarians are like this too.

Vegetarians have many different terms. It's not just a meat thing. Some no dairy and meat, they don't consider themselves vegan because they still have animal products in their household like animal tested products.

I think that a vegan was once a more restrictive subset of what vegetarian used to mean to most folks. (Vegetarians might still consume dairy, eggs and even fish & seafood.) All vegans were vegetarians but not all vegetarians were vegan kind of thing. With all the dietary categories we have now, it gets a little hard to keep track. :lau

That makes sense! That’s what I always thought it was! But yes! Very true!! :lau

Now there’s also paleo and keto (still not sure the differences between those two), grain free, gluten free, etc. hah

Ah okay. I always just thought it was just no eating animal products haha but seems it’s usually not wearing them either? Most do seem to be doing that.

Oh yeah no I know but I was trying not be offensive haha I’ve definitely met a lot of savage ones too that give the rest of them a bad name :lau but I know there are cool ones too which is why I said that haha didn’t want to judge them all based on a few.

But some are vicious to meat eaters too and try to force everyone to be vegan haha

And hm that makes sense. It’s so confusing. :lau I’d just call myself vegan even it wasn’t 100% accurate because it’d be more than vegetarian to me aha

But this particular person was insisting vegetarian was only no dairy and stuff too. Like that it couldn’t be just no meat. Like you couldn’t eat dairy and be vegetarian. So it wasn’t just a personal choice. They seemed insistent there was only one definition. They had friends that were and/or read about it and apparently that was the only definition.

Usually some stuff I eat I consider plant based, sometimes vegan. Deoebss on what I'm eating. I just say I eat plants 😂 I eat grass in a pasture 😂😂😂

:lau
