He sounds like a sweetie. If she's not laying, from what I've read here, she doesn't need calcium supplemented--but she'll no doubt eat around the eggshells if she doesn't need them.

She didn't even touch the scraps yet. She's enjoying sunbathing in her big pile of leaves. Her run was maybe a quarter of the size she has now with 3 other hens. She doesn't know what to do with the 30x40 foot dog kennel she's in.

It's about 55 out and it's hot. The sun is really warm. Our peach tree has blossoms on it.

When I looked up scaly mites it shows a lot of chickens feet that look similar to Ol' Reds. So hopefully solving the scaly mite issue then a few soaks and she will be brand new.

I'm honestly thinking about rescuing chickens in the future. Having an animal sanctuary has always been my dream. I have slowly worked towards rescuing dogs, chickens, and ducks in the last 10 years. Getting Ol' Red has made me want to rescue more retired hens that others forget about because they're no longer productive eggs layers.
