➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

As in turkey eggs won't fit in the same carton that large chicken eggs will. Guinea eggs benefit from smaller cartons and rattle around pretty good in a large egg carton.

It is only a short part of guinea egg season that I have any to give away. The first batches always go in the incubator as keets sell well around here.

I was just funnin' you because you said the turkey eggs were highly looked for. I know I've sure spent some time looking for them. One girl likes the spot behind my bicycle on the deck. Several others seem to prefer a cozy nook between the many fallen corpses of the Forest "service's" mismanagement just on the other side of our fence. Some I almost trip over just walking across the yard... A few even make it into various nesting boxes and nooks. :lau

Are the feed stores selling out on poultry there, too? I haven't been in a feed store since they (I assume, by now) have started selling chicks, etc. DH is afraid for me to go, and of course I don't want to chance making him sick. Last year Runnings had so many babies ordered and of course it turned out to be the winter with no end--then the summer of interminable rain--and they ended up with way too many. No idea what they did with them all. So this year the gal who orders them told me they were cutting way back. 🤦‍♀️ Sometimes ya just can't win. :gigI'll bet they're ordering more now.

The only feed store that I check on (rarely) is Murdoch's. They are having a hard time getting in chicks let alone keeping any in stock. The neighbor lady works there and has been telling people to contact me if they want guineas because she has not been able to get any in.

Yes turkey and guinea eggs can cause a significant amount of search time until the nests are located. Judicious use of fake eggs solves the problem once a nest is located. The turkey eggs are highly sought after because people really like them. They make wonderful baked goods and excellent custards.

Ask @OneMountainAcres . Maybe she'd make some for you. She sewed an awesome one for her hubby and she does sell chicken saddles on Etsy.

I'm a little late to the party but here's a few that I made. They're just 2 layers of cotton with some metal wire across the top to shape.

I took the picture before I closed up the edges and added elastic but you get the point lol

Are you doing different sizes? The VOG masks DH used at Mayo came in small, medium & large, but you just had to guess if I remember right. Are you going to put the elastic around the ears or the back of the head?
