➡I accidentally bought Balut eggs: 2 live ducks! Now a Chat Thread!

Ok, so I am confused then. I read a lot of people feed eggs back to their chickens. If I should not do this, what would you recommend to feed instead to help her get through this molt and not get depleted of her nutrients to cause her problems?

Mackerel. The canned stuff. Or canned salmon (the cheap stuff with bones and skin) or tuna. Beef liver is good too. The admirable @rjohns39 has taught many of us the power of mackerel.

A higher protein food itself might help too. I’ve been feeding multi flock crumbles year round lately ever since I got my rooster and all the chicks, it’s just easier, but I used to just do it in the winter and/or when they were molting. It seemed to help. Or starter/grower would too or that stupid feather fixer stuff hahah although the layer feed that I used to feed had just as much protein as that anyway. It was 18% instead of 16%. The feed I feed now is something like 22% or some crazy thing haha but they love it.

Btw :frow

I've actually eaten the canned salmon before myself although it's been quite a few yrs. Don't judge me lol! I love fish! :drool I haven't even thought about it or the Mackerel. Those are really good ideas. And they aren't very expensive either. Ask for tips and/or tricks and you shall receive! Thanks!

Oh and mine are really weird and turn their noses up at some fish but love others 😂🤣 and they only eat canned. I once tried to give them a whole trout and I eventually had to throw it out because it just sat in the run uneaten for forever. :th

Even the dog refused to eat it so maybe there was something wrong with it or something. :lau

No problem! Happy to pass along what I have learned from others. And no judgement at all! My mom used to make salmon cakes with canned salmon and they were delicious.

The whole "don't judge me" comment was supposed to be sarcastic and not snotty. I hope I didn't come across that way because I didn't mean it that way. I have heard of a lot of people making salmon patties using and swearing by it. I can say that I have never had a salmon patty. I know, I am a weirdo lol. They are normally made with onions and I don't like onions sooooo..... I've just avoided them lol. I'm a bit of a picky eater. :idunno
