I know that it happens, but this is the first time I'd seen it. I wonder what happened, but I know it could be any number of things. An encounter with a fence, another buck, a dog, or other accident. I assume that the dangling horn will eventually fall off either on its own or he'll rub it against something until it drops.
 
Not likely to be caused by another buck. They are both equally at a disadvantage. They wait until after they shed the velvet to work each other over
It looks like it was a different young buck. I saw the youngster this morning, and his horns are both intact. They're smaller than the other one I saw as well.
