Charlie stood there, having no idea what else to say or do that could get them out of this situation. His career! His Father! What would his Father do about college when Charlie couldn't work anymore, and couldn't support the two of them? Charlie's mind filled with utter regret as he stood there in defeat.A rumble of laughter erupted from the C.M.I. "You misunderstand. We are not arresting you on the terms of American government. We are arresting you under the terms of our government. Legally, you are not 'under arrest'. There are no felonies against you, according to the U.S. government. But, to us? You are prisoners. And believe me, you wish you were being arrested by the U.S. And, as for your gun," the leader paused, a smile tugging at his lips, "you could fire at us. Maybe kill a few. But, you only have one gun. Maybe two, if the girl has one. But we? We have fifty."
Trixie cried out. "This isn't - You can't - There are laws! Someone's going to figure out that two American citizens have vanished!"
"You don't have alibis. Whatever we say against you would be considered true by most."
Trixie closed her eyes. Of course.
Still staying silent, Charlie subtly looked to Trixie just to see if she could hint at any sort of idea as what to do.
