It's red and I think it looks more like intestines than yolk. We will wait and see.

Fingers crossed for your little one! :fl Just make sure it's somewhere where the other chicks can't peck at it or step on it. Using a container with paper towels will also prevent anything from being torn in the incubator or securing it in a mug if it's low enough for the chick to step on it itself, I use toilet paper stuffed around the chick with it's bottom in its shell when this happens.

Still have 7 runner duck eggs going strong on day 10.

We are going to have to build a bigger duck house before they hatch as well. We did build a drain/water feature duck pond in the shared chicken/duck run over the last couple days. We built a wall around it, with a gentle slope in, so hopefully no chicks will fall in or accidentally drown in there. It looks nice though. Should fill up naturally with rain water and keep it clean with water flowing through naturally.

(I say we...I just mixed the cement and my husband does the walling and coop building!! 😂)

I am curious as to how easy the pond is to clean. I want one with a drain, but if this is easy to clean I will make it instead.

We are hoping that it will be sort of self cleaning. The wall at the front has a small dip that overflows into a drain. We get a lot of rain here in the UK, so hoping that it will keep the water flowing through quite reqularly 👍

The 2nd Blue Birchen Marans hatched....but it looks like it was in a bit of a hurry as it appears that some of its insides were not pulled in all the way. It is still doing some chewing motions with its beak, but is very alert and active. I am not very hopeful for it. I lost one of my July CCL chicks to the same thing when it was 2 days old.

I had one of these in my July hatch, but it had so many other things wrong with it 😔 if it’s intestines are out, I was advised that you should gently push them in with a q-tip.

Hope it pulls through!! 🙏 🤞

All of the English Orpingtons have officially finished hatching! I think I jinxed myself last night when I said, "finally a hatch that isn't going to keep me up all night." because of course the very last chick didn't hatch until like 5am. lol
I'll get some cute pictures once they're all fluffed up. :D
