So, 1 didn’t look totally developed, eyes were sunken in. 2 of them looked big and developed and 1 was actually still barely alive. It surprised me since it was on day 23. It was developed but the neck looked kinked. Wry neck maybe? I reluctantly had to dispatch that chick.

I had one from Lil Blacks hatch of W/Rs eggs I needed to sadly dispatch also. I didn't think any more were alive 2 days after hatch, but this one was still breathing when I opened it. It hadn't fully developed completely so needed to make that hard call, also.

Same with this one. His beak looked a little off too.

The person I got the eggs from has generously offered some more replacement eggs. I might take her up on it soon. I found some white faced black Spanish hatching eggs locally. I might get some of those and do one more summer hatch.

I was gone all day and came home to see the chicks and hens have bonded nicely.

Lots of cute chicks out in the yard exploring now. The 2 clutches have started to mix and match with the 2 hens. Second pic is one of the black copper maran chicks. I like how the color of his face, eyelid, and beak criss-cross and change. Some of the the easter egger chicks have vibrant beaks, combs, and shanks.

I think the chick on the left in the photo below is the only one from a pointy egg.

Here’s an egg from Pretty Girl. Shes the best layer IMO and she’s also the boss of the flock.

Here’s Toasty and her chicks. 8 Easter eggers and 4 Black Copper Marans.

I had a marans hen get locked out of the coop 2 nights ago. Woke up to squawking and ends up something was after her. Set the live trap and got this guy. Not sure if he’s the culprit, but he’s not welcome around my brooders.

Here’s Toasty getting cozy with the chicks at night. Last year I had a possum get 2 chicks. Not gonna let it happen again.

Other than the adult male in the last photo, none are looking male to me yet.
But I would consider them all too young to tell.

I don't remember anything about the colors of the parents, so I don't know if any of the chicks would be color-sexable.
