We don’t in the UK but some peeps eat them. Apparently they were introduced by monks back in the day they are big business these days though

Unless freshwater fish are game fish, i.e. trout or salmon it’s illegal to take other species. Besides we’re such a tiddling group of countries, nowhere is more than 80 miles from the sea. Saltwater fish are much better eating imo
