We found and injured bunny in our yard. It has two wounds and looks like it got attacked. It looked like it was dying so we put it in a box of bedding and some dandelion leaves. It is crying a obviously in a lot of pain. We assumed it would die pretty quick but it's still alive. It have been moving a little more and tried to eat ( it was too weak). It had white puss like stuff coming out of its eye but that has stopped. It won't drink water out of a bowl either. Any suggestions of what to do? We think it will die and we tried to provied a dry, warm spot for it, but if you have any ideas on how to help, we would appreciate it.

@Three Little Bunnies You have rabbits-do you know how to deal with injuries or anyone on BYC that does? Is it a wild rabbit or a domestic one? I believe a wild rabbit, at least near me, will have a tawny brown coat that is short, and also sticking up ears. In my experience domestic rabbits have all different colors and lengths of fur and also can have lop ears or not. Maybe try cleaning it's wounds with warm water paper towels if it will let you hold it? It's best not to swoop down on them from above because it feels like they're getting picked up by a hawk. @Eggcessive and @Wyorp Rock you guys deal with chicken wounds-probably wouldn't be much different on a rabbit, especially predator wounds. Maybe try feeding it some kale? I know that lots of peoples rabbits like kale.

About how old is it? If it’s too small you will have to give it water with a dropper, and get formula and a little bottle for it.

One option is to kill it. You expect it to die anyway, and you think it's in pain, so just making it die sooner might be the kindest thing.

About how old is it?

If you do not know anything about its age, try posting a photo here--someone who knows about rabbits can at least make a guess on whether it's old enough to eat and drink rather than nursing.

Sadly, bunnies are very sensitive and don't easily survive injuries but it can take a while for them to die naturally. It's just a sad fact. Just keep him dry and warm. Don't provide water in a bowl, he doesn't know what that is and will tip the bowl and get wet. If the injuries are not too bad, if he has use of his legs, clean them up while he's in shock. It may be possible to just release him. It's hard to tell from your post.

I’m so sorry you had to come across this. if at all possible, I would take it to the vet. Rabbits cannot survive more than 8 hours without food, so you will need to get it to eat ASAP if you are able to. A way to make this all ok is just to kill it to put it out of its suffering. This might be a hard thing to go through, however, it would really help this rabbit in every way. You wouldn’t want to see it die in pain.

It worked! looks like a wild rabbit to me. Probably best to try to clean its wounds now while it's in shock, like @Awakening Forest suggested, so it doesn't try to resist you. It seems to be an adult as well.

Beautiful rabbit, I’m so sorry that you found it. But I’m glad you did so you can try and save it’s life. If it does make it, I would not release it. It seems in bad shape. If possible I would keep it as a house rabbit- this is my opinion assuming that this rabbit will not fully recover. Please release it somewhere safe if it does
