First of all, thanks, you guys.Hello, guys. I will be absent until sometime tonight, just a heads up.
Something got Simnel and Rapier. It left Simnel's body behind, and it isn't very badly mutilated -- his crop was torn open and he's missing some of his skin, but that's about it -- so I have decided to dissect what's left to better familiarize myself with chicken anatomy.
I just thought that I'd let you guys know. Have fun partying, guys! I'll be along later.![]()
Glad that Rapier came back!!!First of all, thanks, you guys.
Second of all, the dissection was a blast! Definitely a learning experience.
Third, Rapier came back! She was in the coop when I went to put them in!
I think that a Goshawk went after them -- I saw one flying around this afternoon, after I found Simnel. I don't know where Rapier was hiding, but it didn't get her, so that's good.
Chicken lungs are weird....
Please tell me you took decent pics...First of all, thanks, you guys.

My mother and I took at least fifty. Please tell me you took decent pics...
Great job! I personally would have cut the digestive tract open when I was done. Just to have a peek inside. I'd have looked at cross sections of the heart and lungs, crop and gizzard too.My mother and I took at least fifty.
Oh, and chicken testicles look like large white beans. Like those funny butter beans that you can get.
Managed to not pop any of the digestive tract all over the place! A bit leaked out, so it was a bit smelly, but at least it wasn't the cecas.
When you dissected did you find an egg?First of all, thanks, you guys.

I sliced the gizzard in half -- it was weird -- but didn't dare to cut open the intestines. I thought that they would stink up the small room that we were operating in.Great job! Well, you see, it's this really weird --When you dissected did you find an egg?
(Edit) oh it was a roo. I’m not going to ask what you found instead
And you call me the weird oneI sliced the gizzard in half -- it was weird -- but didn't dare to cut open the intestines. I thought that they would stink up the small room that we were operating in.
His crop was already torn open. I didn't think to cut up the heard and lungs.
I did manage to get an eye out intact, though!

I agree with hawk guess. Usually crop is first target for them.First of all, thanks, you guys.
