I manged to pull a dragon by her tail and survived:
Just wanted to verify that the little dragon-baby is still alive and doing well. The compartment of the duck-house containing the two dragon mommas and their baby is sealed off for tonight, so 🤞🏻 nobody will accidentally step on the little one.
Add from this morning: I worked. The little one is still with its mommas.
 
Just got the next Boo-Hoo call: Last year i sold - i don't remember how many - hatching eggs to an family who wanted to build a farm business. Today they are asking me if i would be willing to take back about 50 ducks and drakes as ducks have turned out not to be profitable.

I said no and the answer was "okay then we will process them". Now i feel like i have sentenced 50 ducks to death. All my fault! I could have saved the poor duckies from becoming dinner. 🤯

That's it! No more hatching eggs! Period!

I totally get it. Once we sell them we never know what is going to happen to them for sure. Most of the ones that I sold ended up being drakes. Some flew off and I really don't know what happened to all of the rest. Once they leave our hands I feel we are no longer responsible for them as we did our best, raising them to that point. I am sorry these will end up being on the dinner table but at least I feel that is better for them to have a purpose rather than be torn apart by a wild animal and left to suffer. I have a Mallard that keeps on thinking she is going to become a Mother duck this year again and I keep taking the eggs daily to stop it. I don't need any more babies for sure.
 
I sold about 25 ducklings to a lovely family, had kids, super excited, amazing property.. then I found out later they don’t care about the sex ratio :th They believe it’s “natural” for boys to overmate the girls.. I wish I could recuse the poor hens, but I can only hope they’ll notice the duck loss / injuries and change their minds.

I desperately want to hatch some babies from my Swede hen, but don’t want to keep many babies / don’t want to deal with another bad family like that.. it’s very hard.

I do have way too many drakes, but i also have a lot of space for the flock to roam around, so during the day they all split up into small groups and forage/sleep in different areas. There is one group of six drakes, from last-year's incubator-gang that stays by themselves without any duck around. They seem to be happy not having to deal with all the crazy broody-hormonal hens.
There is some commotion in the evening while everybody gathers between the duck- and the humon-house and waits for the supper-bowl to be served. Then there is the occasional drake fight, but i expected it to be much worse than it has turned out.

That's great that it is working out so well. I think having all of that room for them is a Godsend. I never mind my drakes as long as my girls have all of their feathers and so far so good with mine but I still plan on rehoming them to a good home the end of next month as long as my friend does not back out on me.
