🪶☕ the cochin café: Cochin Lovers’ Thread ☕🐔

That is very true..
I'll definitely not write off the breed if I come across the perfect calico.

Thank you for the reassurance!

No good or recent photos, but here’s my Buff Cochin. She doesn’t have a name. She’s very skittish but quite vocal. She tried going broody this year but got off the eggs a couple days before hatch day, so I’m hoping she tries again next year.
She’s really sweet regardless of her skittishness.

Such cuties
I’ll take any name suggestions! This is her second year, so that was her first broody attempt.
Side note, does anyone know if buff Cochins are partridge based?
I don't think they are, but genetics thoroughly confuse me. I think buff is maybe a result of a combination of Wheaten and something, or maybe a diluted red? I think I read Columbian may be in there too. I've only read a little on it though, in regards to Buff Orpingtons. But right now I've only got Blue (BBS) Orpingtons so I'm trying to decipher those genetics first, lol.

nope. buff is widely known to be the very first color variety of the cochin breed when they were brought to europe and america in the 1840s

Got my 1st cochin. A bantam frizzle. She's a star gazer, but adorable and rules the roost already. Giving her vitamins to hopefully fix her star gazing, but if it doesn't work, she's still a happy girl.

I already can see how folks love the breed!
