They sell most kinds of wire by the foot, rather than by the roll. I bought my 16 gauge 1/2 by 1/2 wire from them.

The 16 gauge is plenty strong, I can tell you.

Gail, yes, the stuff I'm looking for aears to have weld points at the intersection but really isn't the same as say welded wire fence. Hardware cloth is the best description for a visual idea of what I'm looking for using words only over the internet.

Out here on the "left coast" I got mine from Ace Hardware. I think it was the 19 ga stuff, not sure. It was hard enough to work with, can't imagine working with anything heavier.

Unfortunately anything larger than 19 gauge is hard to find. I'm still looking. By the way "gauge" is the thickness of the wire. You will not find it on Amazon or Ebay.
