I found some great prices from Wayfair, Amazon and Wireclothman.com. My question - the 16 guage seems almost twice as heavy as the 19 guage. What is the standard guage used for coops? Thanks.

I believe that 19 gauge for 1/2" x 1/2" wire mesh is the standard that is available and used for coops. 23 gauge (thinner wire) for 1/4" x 1/4" mesh. This is all welded wire. It is possible to find heavier gauge and even the industrial woven mesh but the price goes up and up.

What do you think is the best to put on the bottom of a new chick brooder for day olds up to 2 weeks old? It would need to be lifted out, by brooder is 24 in x 48 in. heavy wood box. It would need to be tiny, right?
